Daish: I really don't get why people make such a big deal about winter...it happens every year. For some reason the east coast feels that when it happens to them is the only time it counts or matters...lol. Many of us live in areas that have much more severe winters every year and don't make such a big fuss over it. Oh well...to each their own I guess.
Hey don't knock it, it gives people who live in the Rocky Mountain states the opportunity to brag.

Try to write your name in it with pee, we'll see how good your aim is I can usually do my initials.

BTW it was 4f degrees this AM (-15.5c)

We just got 24" of the fluffy stuff in 24 hrs. Although our little burg claims it got 14", nobody obviously came down to our section of town and measured all our yards, streets and driveways. No wind gusts either with this. Just heavy snow downpour.

Sadly, at 4am Saturday morning, I was awakened to see the firetrucks outside my home putting out a blazing inferno at the mobile home across the street 30 feet away from me. My neighbor lady and her 2 week old grandson burned up alive. Found her on top of the baby with her hands cradled around him.

Firemen couldn't hook up the hoses fast enough and get it through the deep snow and billowing black smoke. They felt helpless as it took 3 hrs to contain the fire. A 4WD city snowplow was called in to try to clear another entrance on the road. Then 3 other private snowplows came. 7 fire depts were lined up and only 2 could work at a time due to bad conditions. The home was fuly engulfed in 15 mins and the firemen were not even able to get hooked up quick enough to do much good.sad flower

ooby_dooby: Well, we got a foot of snow a few days ago which was a mess. Then it started to melt and before it was halfway gone we just got hit with another snow storm. This one wasn't as deep but it was wetter and much heavier. Good snowball snow. The first one was very fluffy and powdery. Today was very difficult because I have 18 chickens and they kinda suffer when it snows. I had to go out 3-4 times to the pen to beat the accumulation of snow off the netting covering the pen so it wouldn't cave in under the weight. Half of it caved in anyway. My neighbors barn collapsed under the snow load, she was lucky her horses weren't in there when it came down. Now there's another huge snow storm coming across from the west coast which should be here in about 3 days. Schools have been closed all week and they probably wont open next week either. I just hope to hell we don't lose power. Been lucky so far which is amazing because this area is famous for power outages from snow storms.

Wow that is brutal. I am sorry to hear this. Me, I hate snow and being snowed in. Also hate power outages as here it can drop to -40. This is one of the reasons I am moving to British columbia. The rain doesn't have to be shoveled. I am crossing my fingers that you don't endure any more hassles because of the snow.

oops

Despite the fact that the earth has been warming cooling ever since 1998, and despite the fact that there is more sea ice at both poles than there was a decade ago, and despite the fact that other planets are also experiencing the same warming and cooling patterns, the scammers will twist the data and continue to insist that global-warming doomsday is upon us unless we pay carbon taxes to the rich and undertake draconian measures that will lead to mass starvation among the poor and impoverish the former middle class all over the world.

...have no doubt in my mind that in any situation one will always find those who like vultures....will nourish over any form of mishap....

...it is just that energy flows in the planet's weather patterns are changing drastically....and they will leave an effect on humanity....whether we like it or not...

dunno

...as to the need of drastic changes in the way we live....have been aware of that long before the phrase global warming was even phrased...

...it is pure common sense....we simply are too many to keep on taking taking taking from the planet...without expecting some form of repercussion.....it is simply not sustainable any longer...

Certainly pollution is a problem.
The destruction of natural habitats is a problem.
Man does do a considerable amount of damage to the environment.

But the claim that CO2 is driving climate change is ridiculous.
The claim that the world is rapidly heating up is a lie.
The claim that drastic extreme reduction in CO2 emmissions (accomplished by global policing and a Carbon taxes) are essential to prevent catastrophic global warming is a total hoax.
The claim that there is a consensus, or even a majority opinion among climate experts supporting the claim that CO2 is warming the planet is a baldfaced lie.

Since 1998 the earth has actually been cooling.
Antarctic ice is growing.
This year Arctic ice is growing too. (after a 10 year low last year).

The earth is indeed very slowly warming.
It has been warming for 160 years at the same steady pace.
But that's ok because from 1250 to 1850 there was the "little ice age" when the earth was considerably colder than "normal".
And prior to that, there was the medieval warm period when grapes and wheat grew in Greenland. It was much warmer than now but there was no catastrophe. No islands disappeared, Antarctica didn't melt, greenland didn't lose its glaciers etc etc etc etc.

People are making hyped up claims in order to generate fear and enrich themselves with huge scams. And those same scams will cause starvation as grain is diverted from food use to producing ethanol and livestock production is suppressed.

Manmade pollution doesn't hold a candle to the intentional damage that man does through wars, artificially induced famines, artificially induced disease, and inflation that starves people even when the food is there for the taking.

But there are those who profit from such things, gaining wealth and power.
And they are behind the global warming scam.

Hi Ray ...fascinating post it does make sense. I do know from first hand experience that yes we have caused some of the environmental problems, but a lot are natural cycles.. There is a British Lord ( former Prime Minister Thatcher Govt Minister) , I will find his name for you, he is here in Australia & said yes golbal warming does exist it has been taking place now for 4 billion years.

The other fascinating aspect was when the arctic circle shrinks, antarctica expands & the vice versa.

trish123: that aint necessarily so

it can’t be too cold to snow, but is gets increasingly difficult the colder it gets.

Exactly.

What happens is that the moisture precipitates out before it gets that cold. It's not the temperature that prevents it from snowing, it's just that there is no moisture left in the air to make the snow from.

That changes when the cold air blows across a body of water.

That's why places like Buffalo New York or Sapporo Japan get so much snow, in both cases, cold arctic air blows across a big body of water and then hits mountains where the air rises and gets colder still. So all the moisture that just got picked up gets dumped back out immediately.

One thing that allows continued snow even when the air is very cold is a converging of two weather systems. For example in the eastern US there is an anticyclone bringing moist air from the gulf of mexico. When it meets cold arctic air the moisture precipitates. But of course it's not too cold at first because the moist air is also warm. By the time the cold front pushes through the anticyclone is no longer there so there is no more moisture to precipitate.

To the observer it may seem like the snow stops because the weather gets colder, but in fact its just that both things are happening at the same time.

Yes, I know about that guy, Lord Monkton.
Glad you mentioned him.

Here's a lecture he gave.
Everybody should take the time to watch it.

Actually, world wide it's been the warmest January
since world average temps have been calculated.
Some time in the seventies I believe.

bodleing: Actually, world wide it's been the warmest January

That claim is simply not true.

In 1997, because of El Niño the global temperature was considerably higher than this January. And there have been many El Niños in the past.

Just because there are no "global" records before the 1980s doesn't mean that the global temperature wasn't often warmer than it was this year..

That's one of the scammer's tricks.
They say "this is the warmest decade since we've been keeping records" but they fail to say that they've only been keeping their "global" records for about 25 years. Before that, there is just raw data from all over the world with no way to correctly correlate it.

Every community on earth has had warmer months of January in the past. There was really nothing phenomenal about this January. It's just another January like all the others. Cold and snowy in some places, sunny and warm in others.
