I guess tomato-based sauces are ok conversing creamy ones obviously being high in fat dunno

But majorly the pasta and cheese would be the culprit as far as weight gain is concerned .. and pasta doesn't have a great deal of nutritional value.

As for pizza .. sigh

Healthy food is generally the worst tasting food. I myself crave Italian food especially some good homemade seafood Manicotti.

Can you really call pizza true Italian?? It has become so universal now heck now they have Mexican pizza for pete sakes.

Italian food is NOT unhealthy.

It's a proven fact that the meditteranean diet is one of the healthiest in the world.

Maybe what you get served in the States, that purports to be Italian is unhealthy, but then look at the rest of your diet...

Burgers and chips (fries)... in fact chips with everything doh

I'd have to agree that Italian food is in fact the healthiest in the world, with less incidences of food related illnesses than anywhere else.

People are generally long lived, and have little or no heart problems that are often associated with bad diets.

Hardly any fat in their diet, except in some meats, which you'd need to have anyway for the absorbsion of certain vitamins, since fat isn't used for cooking.

Most things are cooked in, or drizzled with, olive oil and served with salads. Food is fresh, not frozen or pre-prepared. Exceptionally healthy in fact!peace

Pasta, like many foods high in carbohydrates, often gets a bad reputation for being fattening; however, this does not have to be true.

Carbohydrates, though recently made out to be villains, are actually necessary to keep your body and mind running smoothly. When carbohydrates are broken down they provide a major source of glucose. Glucose is the primary source of energy for your body and the only source of energy for your brain.

Pasta is healthy, it's the sauce that isn't.

The Italians, like the Greeks, Spaniards and French eat a lot of unprocessed foods, they use plenty of oils in their dishes and certainly eat more salad then a lot of countries.

They also TAKE THEIR TIME over a meal, not like others that eat it like there is no tomorrow.

Only in America, in Italy it is possibly the best food health wise in the world, fresh not frozen, made that day not processed, Italian Pizza is nothing like the crap sold elsewhere, fresh base made with fresh ingredients, and yes some salt and fat but we need that to digest correctly, fresh tomato sauce, fresh fish/meat/veg.
I was a type 2 diabetic, but after living in Italy for 8 months when I was last checked I was better than average, also my cholesterol was rock bottom.

So true. I agree with you. What is unhealthy about Italian food? Not the fat. Olive oil is good for you. Americans eat a lot of sugar and processed foods, that's the culprit. I know because I used to live in the US.
