I am a Socialist, and I am tired of hearing that Obama is a Socialist because he is not... A socialist health care system would be excellent and a benefit to everyone...but that is not what they are doing at the moment

Is popular support a prerequisite, Ray? I seem to remember a certain former president who enjoyed virtually no support for his wars in the middle east. Despite lack of support, the wars continued because his buddies at Haliburton, Kellog / Brown and Root were (and are) making money hand-over-fist.

Yes shame for me as I know nothing of US politics so can never get involved in specifics but as generalised political ideology I can have input. Alas not many general politic debates going these days, seems to be Obama orientated all the time which excludes some good political debate rather than being inclusive, Such a shame really.

I do not agree with socialism as i have worked hard for what i have and i am not willing to give it all up without a fight that is. Bottom line i do not think that those of us with wealth( although i don't consider myself rich) should have to give up what we have worked for and give it to those who did not achieve it.

I am anti-socialist as well as anti-communist and i don't give a hoot if this offends others because after all we should have our own opinions. Again i will say that if he was not socialist he would not be trying to bring a goverment run healthcare program into play and he sure would not agree with the idea of wealth redistribution.( You want to go pulling the covers over someones eyes seek others because i do not believe your malarkey)

Point well made, toranoga. The country is in serious decline. We have down-sized, right-sized and outsourced most of our formerly good-paying jobs. The result is that the public coffers suffer.

We don't need advanced degrees in mathematics to realize that when the income is less than the outgo, something must give.
We could tax corporations (the entities that outsourced the work and workers) but that's an incredibly unpopular thing to consider. We could withdraw all of our troops immediately but that, too, would be terribly unpopular. We could increase taxes on the wealthy but they're the ones who get our officials elected (so that's not going to happen) or we could increase taxes on the middle class. Guess which one is most likely to happen?

The free market system has destroyed the tax base but it isn't being asked to fix it.
