What is your way to relax, sometime's I can't sleep or I'am uptight because of stress. The doctors gave me drug's but they don't work, what is a natural way, I tryed medatation but don't know how to get into it.
1) Get some soft relaxing music. Normally something about 10 minutes long with no words. I use Samual Becker's Adagio for strings (pm with an email me and I will send it to you)
2) You need a comfortable sitting or lying position. I use a normal chair and just get a good seating position. I used to sit in the middle of the floor with my legs crossed, but my knees sound like cracking walnuts after I do this now.
3) Turn off all the lights, or close the curtains, and close your eyes
4) Take a slooooow big breath in, and count to 5 in your mind.
5) Breathe out really slowly whilst counting 5 in your mind
6) Just repeat this for a little while until you can feel your heart slowing down. You must concentrate on controlling your breathing to slow things down
7) Now whilst continuing to breathe slowly in and out, imagine that you are in a place of deep relaxation. It could be a field or the beach, or on a mountain. But it has to be a place where you are alone, and you can see the flowers and the trees and the birds.
8) Then allow the music to seep back into your thoughts and imagine the music playing, and gently follow the tone of the music. Follow its rises and falls, its higs and its lows.
9) Now return to the place of relaxation, and further enjoy the feelings around you. The fresh breeze coming off the mountains, or the smell of heather in your nostrils .. use your imagination to bring you breathing under control so that it is rythmical, slow and deep.
10) after 7 minutes of the music, it will reach a crescendo, this will be your awakening
VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT OPEN YOUR EYES HERE!!!!
11) after about 15 seconds the music will resume and you must continue to listen to the music to allow it to bring you out of the relaxed state you are in. If you open your eyes here, then the complete state of relaxation will be lost.
12) Ride the tone of the music to your awakening, and all the time you will be breathing deeply.
13) the music will finish slowly and whenit has finished, and you can no longer hear it, take one more deep breath in and out,and then open your eyes.
This works for me ... I awake ready to kill dead things .. really mellow
It can take YEARS to learn the proper way of meditating..And benefiting from it.. its not as simple as soft music and relax and breathe.. Im Buddhist I meditate every morning and sometimes at night.. A dark room some soft music maybe?? I had to take an advanced sociology class for my masters and that book put me to sleep every time i opened it.. ill share...
The best way I find to relax is find a nice quiet place outside, perhaps the park or by a lake.I love just sitting there enjoying the peace & quiet or reading a good book.
I find it very simple and the method I wrote about refreshes me every time. It may not be called meditation, but I call it that, and I find it works.
When I was in Malaysia, I was shown this by a Buddhist monk. It was maybe watered down for my western taste, but when I am stressed and need to relax enough to sleep, then I do this and I fall asleep within 5 minutes.
It also helps if I know I have a potentially stressful day ahead, I can visualise what is going on with each potential stress point.
I take hot bubble baths, I will put on soft and slow music and just try to focus on it, I also like to read or write (dosn't matter what you write. Could be doodling even)
I also will watch a good movie. Sometimes a black and white classic. Normaly something funny that will boost my mood up and relieve stress.
Excercise is also another good one. I love to walk and I find walking helps me to meditate and relax.
