Hey All!!

I'm in the states right now (I know some of ya already know that) and I'm hoping to do some voluntary work while I'm here.

I'm finding it very difficult to find anywhere lol Surely there must be lots of places who might need my iddy biddy help laugh

Somewhere with accommodation would be preferable and I'm hoping you lot may be able to help with suggestions etc. Some of you may already be volunteering or whatever grin

This is a very big country. It would help to know where you are at the moment, what kind of volunteering you're interested in and how are you getting on the internet?

oops, my bad. It looks like you're in GA. Atlanta would be my guess. Mmm, well, you could head SSW to the gulf coast with a bucket and scoop some of the oil out of the water. laugh

Remember there are 3 levels of contacts:

Federal (US)
State
Local (county/parish, city)

All 3 exist wherever you are. You'll find all 3 in the Blue Pages of the phone book. Each of the three also maintains contacts with various NGOs. Explore all the alternatives, maximize your pleasant charm (you will be dealing with government bureaucrats), and be persistent. This is your path of opportunity. Good luck!

There are lots of places that need volunteers. But finding one with accomodations will be the trick. Where did you want to search? Which state or area? Kind of worried you wandering around the U.S. alone comfort Please be careful. I know that there are cultural differences and have seen some end up in jail here because what was exceptable where they live was not heredunno blues Please tell me you are going to be ok.

Hi S...wave Hope youre having fun!!grin

Well, I volunteered for the local hospital in their offices until I was authorized to work. Just doing general clerical, marketing work, etc. I would recommend contacting a local health care foundation, maybe?

Will warn you though; they still expect a full interview procedure, references, and a US Social Security Card, bla bla bla. Its not as straightforward as you would think to just volunteer here!doh

Anyway, good luck with it!bouquet
