Hi wave

I'm planning a trip and have been scouring the net for ideas conversing majorly looking at tour operators such as Geckos, Imaginative Traveller etc (Im a grassroots kinda gal lol)

I have a trip on the backburner for southern Africa, but it's not set in stone as yet. Have done a fair bit of travel, including East Africa, India and the UK.

But what I'm thinking is that Ive been to Thailand a couple of times and loved the people and the culture, so I've been pondering on Cambodia and Laos as I believe they are beautiful places with a wealth of culture and history daydream

Just wondering if anyone's been and can give me some info cool
Are those countries as touristy as Thailand, Vietnam etc confused and if so, are there more off-the-beaten-track areas that could be the way to go dunno

Any advice would be appreciated wine

Check out intrepid travel.. based in Melbourne and they will have "tours" that suit your needs.. I did India with them.. fantastic and well worth the effort.

Yes thanks for that MBR wine I've travelled with Intrepids before and it was great conversing

I guess on this one, I'm looking for first-hand info and experiences about the actual regions I'm considering, to help make a decision about which tour to choose.

Googled "travel forums" and followed the link to Lonely Planet's Thorn Tree travel forum conversing

Perfect cool You just find the country/region you're interested in and there's heaps of blogs and posts from peeps who have travelled in those areas popcorn

Heaps of interesting stories and insights from travellers, rather than glossy brochures that will only tell you what you wanna hear hmmm and you can throw questions to the forum too, which is kinda handy.

Just thought I'd share that info in case anyone was interested wine

There's lots of work here. A person can literally work 24/7 right to their (early) grave if they wanted to, and is often expected to as well. laugh

Ok will see what I can find out. have a few other mates living in Thailand & working either on the oil rigs in the gulf or in the sandpit (Iraq) or the ghan (afghanistan) that travel those parts.

will get what I can before I get off here. these supposed upgrades are causing massive problems for me here on CS so will get off here in few days.

Anywhere in British Columbia from the mid-point down to the US border, from the Rocky Mountains to the Pacific Ocean. It's all lovely, albeit a bit rugged in spots.

The southern part of Ontario, along the Great Lakes, and the Niagra region, including the falls.

The Atlantic coast, any of the Maratime provinces are nice, and the people are very friendly.

There's lots to do and see in between too, and there's always the Northwest territories and the Yukon territory as well the rest of the provinces. All have something to offer, and the scenery varies so much from one end to the other. The only bad part is that it would take a couple years to really see most of it.

Canada isn't a small country. laugh

Kia ora Serene,

have some information but not from those (ends up a few of my mates are now set up there) living there.

ONe of the boys says it will be like going back in time when you visit Laos or at least until you see the Mekong.

another who worked in Cambodia as part of the UN mine clearance teams until recently (that is why most of them are still there, they liked it & stayed) is in Laos you have to visit Luang Prabang, in Cambodia Siam Reap.

will pass on more info I get until I get off, unless things improve drastically on CS in next day or so.
