Re-Kung Fu, I had the honour and pleasure to see the Shaolin Monks train at our dojo last November. Their abilities are truly outstanding. I used to be a 'sceptic' about all the hype about them, but seeing them train live at our dojo, as well as watching the 'proper' show a few days later at a local theate, it truly left me in awe of them.

wulfen: You make me wish I had grown up in South Africa.
Over here when I was a kid the attitude in schools was that sports was a waste of time since you couldn't earn money from it, and you would only get into it because you weren't any good at academic subject. Go figure such an attitude from 'educators' eh?
Unfortunately the same attitude was shared by a lot of parents back in those days as well. Thankfully that seems to be changing nowadays, and the kids' class at our dojo has a very healthy attendance.
At some point the educators will get the hang of the idea that if kids can do a little exercise every 20 minutes (The total length of adult concentration span) the increased oxygen to the brain will enhance learning.

My daughter studied Tai kwon do. As an ignorant outside observer, it seemed to suit taller people well. At 4'11'' would she be better off studying a chinese art because of the likeness in stature?

Yes the way they can channel air to a particular body part so that it doesn't feel any pain on impact is something that has to be seen live to fully appreciate.
Can't wait for them to come visit us again this year

Taekwon do is a Korean martial art, so I wouldn't worry about your daughter being too short for it, considering the Koreans aren't exactly giants themselves usually.

Er, me tall? I'm of average height amongst fellow Maltese, and we're hardly giants ourselves
You should see our national football team whenever we play a Scandinavian country, the shortest guy amongst the Vikings will be taller than our tallest player.
i think it's better for man, to practicing martial arts, every child in my family did it even me do a karate, like my father always said "learn martial art increase our confident, selfdefence, and make a child growup very wisely in their mind coz the principal of the martial arts it self"

wulfen: Hehe, so long as you don't expect us to do our fighting in the mud it's ok for me. Well, if you offer a helping hand in the shower I might do the mud fighting bit too...
