I havent been out with anyone since november because of my marriage break-up. Once the kids were ok i didnt really give a toss about anything else. I met a girl at a work BBQ on friday night..
Now i am 36 and she is 24... what is the general opinion on here about acceptable age gaps..Nothing has happened yet.. we have met a few times since and there is defo a spark.. i hope.. but at this stage i wouldnt know a signal if it electrocuted me!!

Go for it. I don't think it's too much of an age gap.

I have just wasted over a year being crazy about someone who is not interested in me ... I could have put myself out of my misery a long time ago if I had actually just asked him out.

So....... go for it .... ask her out. You have nothing to lose.

Good luckhandshake

Go with your gut. (or lower, grin ) <-- Sorry, in one of those moods.

But if she's happy with it, and you're happy with it, then sod it. My advice. Just go on a good few dates first to really make sure you're compatible. You may be, you may not but there's nothing to lose. Strictly speaking I go with 5 years either way but that's always been more of a guideline. You have to be open to everyone..... of legal age!! scold

There is no age limit only what we set for ourselves and she is of legal age to be with whoever she wants to be. My only advice to you is dont rush it and listen to your gut instinct.

Life is to be enjoyed not endured is my motto.....So why waste precious time wondering go for it!

Maturity is far more important than age, having said that in 20 years time a 12 year gap gets the response "Sorry I don't date geriatrics!" figure that one out.sigh frustrated

I wont date anyone old enough to be my Da, so I think your safe on that level, but what age are your kids? I mean if your 36 your kids could be as old as 18, bit strange if she is 24 however is your kids are children its a little differnt. Anyway, if your thinking about the age gap you must have issues with it yourself, do you know how she feels about it?

Listen thanks a mill on those replies everyone... the kids are 14 and 7.. Im not sure i have an issue with the age.. but have been away from it all for so long i wouldnt know...We had been talking at work on and off.. i had a definite attraction to her before things escalated on friday and i found out her age.. it hasnt changed my opinion of her.. Being away from the scene for so long i wouldnt rush into relationship and had taken a slight step back to see if she was interested.. which thank god she seems to be.. I think that the fact my confidence is shot and you think why me? is why i asked the question here.. if that makes any sense...

I'm 24 and wouldn't date anybody older than 28/29ish. Maybe it is different for a girl but I just could just see there being too many differences in your life stages.

She might be extremely mature, but she will probably still want to do what 24 year olds like to do ...clubs, festivals etc. Just have a think about what type of life you would have with her or if you want a long or a short term relationship. Would you be up for the type of things she will want to do? What if she decides she wants to got travelling in a year (saying that as it is on my mind for next year!)

For me, if it was short-term I would not care but anything longer will need a lot of thought.

After 21, I think what's acceptable to you and the other person is acceptable. You can't worry about anyone else. M

Go for it i say, as long as ye're both comfortable with it

Different people are comfortable with different age ranges. I'm 30 and probably couldnt go any lower than 24, but could go as high as 40. That's just the way i'm wired

She's met you a few times since the bbq so that's definitely a sign she's comfortable with it. I wouldn't worry too much what other people think, as long as you're comfortable with it and there's a spark there, i say go for it. Nothing to lose
