I think the general idea OP is you choose a moment when she's not deep in conversation with someone and go up and ask her if she fancies a dance. If she says no... you say "How about a drink?" if she says no you say "How about a deep discussion of metaphysics?" or similar...

Get out of your chair walk over ask her to dance, or if you can buy her a drink. All she can say is no (it is a 2 letter word). If she is not interested, it doesn't matter what you say or do.
