TrueBlue1986: The universe is still expanding now, the logic of which suggests it must have expanded from somewhere, a central point of sorts?

Actually, there are several ways to look at the same evidence.

You could say that the universe is expanding.
But it's not expanding from any central point as you seem to think. There is no center of the universe, or rather every point in the universe is the center of the universe, and the universe is expanding in all directions at once. What's more, it is not slowing down in that expansion as the original Big Bang hypothesis claimed. Instead, the expansion is accelerating.

Here's a site that explains that way of looking at the situation.

So some think the universe is expanding.

However, another way to explain the exact same observable phenomenonis to say that all matter in the universe is shrinking uniformly, (in both size and weight) and that the shrinking process is accelerating.

And besides the 'expanding universe' hypothesis, and the 'shrinking matter' hypothesis, there is yet a third theory to explain the observable situation.

The 'slowing of the speed of light' hypothesis.

The three theories sound very different but they are actually all the same.

Whether the universe is expanding, or all matter is shrinking, or the speed of light is slowing down, the result is exactly the same.

Iamgine 2 airplanes flying. If both planes were shrinking uniformly, a passenger on one plane would seem to observe that the distance between the planes was growing.

And if the speed of light were slowing down, given that the speed of light is the universal constant by which all observation is derived and calibrated, distance would seem to be increasing between all matter.

To a shrinking man it would appear that the universe was growing.
Likewise to a man whose internal clock was ticking slower and slower.

I see no reason to believe in any book if I wish not to...

Why do you think everyone has to believe in a book of any sort....dunno

No one has to but based on his arguments, he does believe in some book. and i find no error in the original writings of the Bible, only the translated versions

I have a computer program that is a bible plus. It gives the original writings with three different translations and an option to do the translating yourself by showing all possible meanings for the words.

I'd say it is expanding, which ultimately suggests that it must retract aswell. I believe the universe will collapse into nothing eventually, subsequently followed by another big bang.

A life and death cycle that all matter conforms to.

I am in the slowing speed of light camp but NOT based on the link you posted. Barry Setterfield is a quack. He postulates that the speed of light itself is losing energy over time. This is nonsense and all he's doing is muddying up the waters with his BS. There is a strong religious undertone to his writings.

Light that is traveling from a distant galaxy is being acted on by a matrix of gravity which in my view is taking energy from it which is causing it to travel slower thus leading to the wrong conclusion that the source is receding. I spelled it out years ago in this thread. I don't feel like typing it all again.

I for one cannot believe a book in its entireity that has thousands of instances yet offers no proof whatsoever!

I do believe that parts of the Bible are true as are parts of other books.
