Ok i now wish i never put this up thanks to everyone for there advice 
wadly as she asked for the advise, so we all give our OWN opinions some differ and then the ones who dont agree come accross stong and bully like tactics to get the message across, quite rude!

Good tip, I think my reaction time is a bit slow, by the time I make my mind up to put the foot down the birds are able to get out of the way.

That is a total and utter waste of police time! The country is awash with drugs and crime and they are "investigating" a little dog getting run over?? Only in Ireland...

I have a Dog and love her to bits, but I AM RESPONSIBLE for her.
I have also blown the brains out of Dogs with a 22.270 rifle when they were killing neighbours sheep, didn't cost me a thought to do it.

And Galwayangel, don't be too hung up, you made a call on a split second and I don't believe you could have done better.
Its very easy to say "what should have been done" with hindsight...... I am afraid hindsight doesn't answer questions, you're OK, that's the main thing.

Thanks Batty - I guess we're the only people here with compassion and consideration - which isn't suprising - but I'm actually shaking here with rage about people saying what they are. Its disgusting and I'm really starting to hope things happen to them to give them perspective.
