AustinWien: Yes Airotciv, I get what you mean!
But it's the thumbs up style of holding the fork that freaks me out! (after 5 years here mind!!!)

You need to get a 'proper' obsession mate - like global warming or women's bottoms in tight clothing.

So how do you manage the al dente petite pois that aren't quite back of fork squishable? Do you try to pierce them?

AustinWien: I mean it does my bloody head in! Why cant people hold their knife and for properly here in Austria (Southern Germany, Hungary etc...)
I love living here and its my only pet peeve!!

You know, this is the big problem nowadays.

Many people consider using fork and knife as something ridiculous ;manners are not and will not be ridiculous.

I saw children who dont know how to use knife and fork ;you know why ?because their parents dont teach children how to use them.

In the restaurant I saw adults who dont know how to use knife and fork and use their fingers.

However happens because most people use fast-food and then not need a knife and fork; correct use is :fork in left hand and knife in right hand .

People have forgotten good manners and this is not good; probably we return to the Middle Ages

I hold my knife and fork in the opposite hand of most people in the US. I've been told that I hold utensils like the Europeans. I hold my fork in my right hand and cut with my knife in my left hand. To try to switch and hold my knife in my right hand and fork in left hand is impossible for me. I literally cannot hold my knife in my right hand nor my fork in my left and try to cut my food. The utensils literally fall right out of my hands as there is no strength cutting that way but yet switch hands to the first way I mentioned and there is full grip strength.

I've tried over and over throughout my life to try to hold and cut with utensils like most Americans but with absolutely no success. Very strange indeed. And yet I am strongly right handed.

Wonder if anyone else has this same problem? Am I alone?
