Please don't forget the best one: Milk powder sprinkled on the mattress and car driving seat. When they sit/sleep on it, it works it's way into the skin thus making them smell of milk, which gets steadily worse!
To answer the OP, it's a self preservation thing. We convince ourselves that they weren't fit for us to date. That way, we don't appear to be wrong.

Its partly the rejection,that causes us to scrabble about in our heads proving they are wrong about other things(including us!)Even if we end the relationship,if they don't seem bothered,it can feel like a rejection in the end.
Its also the fact that the relationship has failed,we don't like to think that we personally have failed-so we blame them.
Also its a good way to stop a softening of will and a going back to that person,we convince ourselves of all the exaggerated negative stuff,and they look less and less appealing,making it easier to get over them,and stay away,when we miss them.

I think it would make life much easier, if those who deliberately do others wrong, should have a tatoo on their forehead, so we can see who they are, before we or others have to learn the hardest way....

Because the person is immature and insecure and feels the need to play the victim. When a relationship fails, even if the other person feels the need to be a blabber mouth, it's been my choice to take the high road, keep my lips zipped and just ignore it, it eventually goes away.
