So would you go out on your own at New Year? (42)

Dec 29, 2010 4:39 PM CST So would you go out on your own at New Year?
Visiting my mum and she has no interest in going out on NY eve but will babysit - neither of my siblings are around. So I can go out in the local town on my own, or the local village pub or stay home ....
Now I don't know anyone and there's a lot of Welsh speakers locally, so even joining in a conversation can be difficult. So do I just take the chance and go out by myself and hope I get talking to some people or stay home?
Would u go out or stay in?
cheers

DUBLINGUY1973: I'd be the opposite. I'd have no problem going out for a beer on my own but hate going to the cinema or to a restaurant alone.

I think SDB's idea of looking for Welsh Csers is a good idea.

You could always head out early and see what its like. Worse comes to worse, you could always go home early and ring in the new year with your family

Eh (in case you haven't noticed....) You're a man!!!

doh doh

A man goes to the pub on his own he's just a guy enjoying a pint.
A woman goes to the pub on her own she's been stood up or is looking for a man.

Sad and unfair but this is still good old Ireland. roll eyes roll eyes

Cmon, this is 2010 (soon to be 2011), why do you care what people think?

I know you probably think its easy for me to say but i think its a case of mind over matter. If you don't mind, they won't matter.

normally it wouldn't bother me - but being New Year people tend to tour the pubs in gangs of girls and guys and there's fancy dress and stuff, I just don't want to look a bit sad on a solo pub crawl ...
I was a bar manager for years, so am happy to be in a pub on my own - well, not like ecstatic or anything but I don't feel intimidated

Sounds like you could manage a drink or 2 so on your own. Give yourself an hour and if nothing pans out head off - no harm no foul! wine

laugh laugh

I was actually asked to leave a hotel as they said I was "giving the impression that certain services were available" and they "did not wish to gain that type of reputation". I was mortified.

I was respectably dressed and reading a newspaper while drinking minerals.

OMG - you are joking. I would have been furious and certainly not have left. They cannot do that it is discrimination.
I would also have had little business cards with "discrete massage and personal service" made and the number of the hotel on it and then distributed them everywhere I could think of ...
