PandoraX: I too take a realistic approach to life.
I'm totally honest with myself... which means I see both the negative side and positive side of whatever situation I may be in or the challenges that face me. Most days I do feel positive, but... There are days that I feel really down, and I allow myself to feel that instead of taking the bluepill and being a false Pollyanna living in Egypt (you know, in De-nial). The ability to laugh through the tears on a really bad day helps too.I don't shun people who feel negative a lot of the time. Many of them have damn good reason to feel that way... and at least they aren't lying to themselves. Not everyone has managed to build the inner strength to find a way to digging themselves out of misery, but some will take a sincere helpful insight from a friend or even a wise stranger now and then... and maybe, just maybe, see a pinprick of light at the end of that oh so long dark tunnel. And then it's up to them to want it, now that they see that they might just be able to get it.

When somebody has the willingness...I'm always there to extend a hand,EVEN IF THEY'RE GOING THROUGH A DEPRESSION OR FEELING NEGATIVE..but IF they don't even have the willingness,I really feel I'M WASTING MY TIME.

That's part of my point. But sometimes that willingness is disguised because it's buried under so much pain.
I do know to stop trying to help once I've established that the willingness isn't there and probably won't be anytime in the foreseeable future.

True,but it's always there...sometimes very deep within,THE WILLINGNESS,and sometimes PEOPLE just need to find their own way.
So I stop trying to help people who don't want to be positive or get well,but I NEVER STOP PRAYING FOR THEM,and pray they find the willingness.
A little off topic,but you can still care about people sometimes,and not want to be a part of their lives.There's some people I know who I DON'T WANT to be close to them,and I DON'T WANT TO BE APART OF THEIR lives,but I CARE FOR THEM,and hope they find the joy and happiness they crave for..I can do that...but I DO IT FROM A DISTANCE.

i dont want to speak about people,everyone has a story to tell..and everyone has individual coping mechanism..i ve also seen people,moaning and whinging in tones,putting themselves together and being as efficient and useful as possible when needed.same as people acting "the ultimate ray of sunshine"and being absolutely useless,when some positivity and action is required.
as for me,very few things can beat me down,i spend my "down"time on my own,when im ready raise and shine again..thats it and will be doing it,till im able..

The companionship of people you care for..ANYTHING,and hopefully with time,it helps break the negative patterns.
Practice saying thank you to people..
Practice acknowledging other people..in such a busy chaotic world...

I know...but the sooner you start practicing..the sooner you develop good behaviours..and the easier it is to combat negative thoughts.

Don't bash all the "negative" people.
There is negative just for the sake of being negative, which is bad and there is "at times" negative which is when I have too much on my plate through wanting to help one and all.
As I said in another thread, I used to be big on positive thinking even when others were falling down by the wayside, but I am finding it hard to cope now.

I use "that phraze" a lot Pedro because I have met a lot of Negative folk in my life, I dont hang around with downbeat folk because if you listen to them long enough "They" will bring you down. Life is to be enjoyed, Its all about laughter and feeling good. Yes, we all have bad days but for me each day is a new one with new challenges,.. be it a grumpy boss, a dour shop assistant or whatever, I will Not let anyone bring me down....

englishelegance: I have been on this site for just over 12 months, I have met some truely fantastic folk from around the world in that time who have ended up really good friends.... I have also encountered some "Negative" folk who are nice people, but,.. hard as I try in talking to these people and trying to help them with lifes problems, cant help but feel there are some folk who seem to be happy in the"downside" of life. What say you????. I am a "Positive Woman" and feel there are some people who really just want to live in a Whoa is me situation......
