in the 40's and 50's society had gender roles to live up to... it was about survival... you know... the kind of stuff survival is made up of... eg: food on the table, a roof over your head... keeping up with the Jones and men don't cry kinda stuff... the man provided and the woman took care of the domestic related things...
modern love is all that but with a twist of no gender specific tasks involved... sharing all tasks from providing to nurturing with both male and female participating in both roles.
the difference is, both r the head of the house and if done with equality, puts self respect and mutual respect bk into the relationship that lacked desperately in the earlier days... JMO though and do what you will with it
or for others, modern love might be - friends with benefits, prenuptial agreements, living together, open relationships etc...,
