It's so nice to see a bunch of lovely black and white calves, their coats so shiny and new, the sunlight glowing off them running around chasing one another or just laying in the sunlight between the long grass.
1 week longer BANG, they're all dead.

I refuse to fit into one of your little pigeon holes of how you decide what people are under your misguided views?

When you have worked for farmers on the land that now walk and live in the suburbs because of supermarket pricing and what some misguided activist group think is cruelty?

Have you ever seen a fly blown sheep? Ever seen a farmer work 7 days a week just to feed his family? While paying every cent he makes to a bank?

I have!

My delivery my not be what I intended to do, but my compassion for farmers I know that have been forced of the land after generations of farming is very strong!!

I would like to publicly apologize too Serene56 for my outburst of emotions,

But Kizzy27, I don’t like you!

The feelings mutual creep!roll eyes

What I think you are failing to deliver. Is a reasoning behind the cruelty?

Blizzard, I dont know if you bothered to read my reply, but I have been part of a farming family.

Where all us kids pitched in to get things done, in every aspect of the farm. In the end when Dad couldnt make a good enough go of the land to keep us all fed, he went back to butchering. Staying away for the week. Mum also ran a cartage business and a small commercial milk run. We all played our part helping where we could.

I have treated fly blown sheep, from clipping the wool away to debriding the wounds. I have also put down animals that were too far gone.

We never practiced cruelty, cruelty is not legitimised by the want or need or making of money.

Bobby calves have always been an emotive issue of the dairying industry. It is real, it does happen. It can be also very cruel when the animals are not cared for the way they should be.

Have you ever seen a 3 day old calf, transported in an open trailer on a freezing cold and wet winters day? Then watched that same small animal stand or lie on a cold wet concrete pen until sold at the sale yards then transported away for slaughter?

I have seen that, and no matter what it is needlessly inhumane.

Farmers being forced off the land is a completely different issue.

PETA an American institute have classed detailing of sheep inhumane, in Australia that is important too stop flyblown sheep?

A dairy farm can only feed so many cows? Any above that number have to be sent off to slaughter, it is not just a matter of having enough feed but having enough land? So its not just a case of increasing the number of cows to make more money? You have to feed them well or the cream content off the milk will go down and you will receive a lower price for your milk?

I don’t believe in chicken cages or pig farming cages, but there are some aspects off farming that are humane if you think about the consequences off not doing anything to prevent what will happen if you don’t do something?

What some call cruelty? Is in respect a means to protect the animals? Farmers cannot become attached to their stock! They have to make a living or there will be no stock or farms left,

I don’t condone too cruelty off animals! But if you think off it we are all guilty off it when we go shopping expecting a better price for what we buy?
