Because some relationships just run their course and fizzle out, therefore they can end with bunnies and rainbows.
If a relationship is cyclonic, of course it's always gunna end bad!
My previous experience is it just ran it's course and I can still maintain a friendship with the ex's.

Still learning as an adult to keep my mouth shut but i did play fair. 
In all honesty I think that when people still have deep emotions for the other person thats when things get rocky , lets face it if you didnt give a toss for the other person youde be celebrating thier departure .....
Personally I found it very hard as I was still in love with him if I had not been it would have been much easier

Mmmmm.....let me think.....ummmm....i'd like to know how you've come up with the conclusion 'some relationship breakdowns' are 'smooth and fluid'???....can't say i've ever witnessed or heard of a breakup being 'smooth and fluid'....sound's so OMMMM...would be very rare word's to use in a 'break-up'....

My first EX? I could not stand in the same room with, she just liked to argue! About anything!
She died age 41?
My second EX? We talk all the time. its more of a genuine belief in doing what’s best for our kid, no she hates the fact that the kid has decided to live with me? But that’s the joint custody agreement I claws I made when we got the divorce! I new one day my kid would feel the way I did about the controlling nature off her mother,
She is also suffering a blood condition? That she has to have blood removed every month?

10 years together takes a while to get over, the chemistry and knowing each others nuances.
I'm sure if it was a shorter spell, there may have been a cleaner break.
