Probably because he had nothing to aim for...He was born in a two bedroom shack in East Tupelo 1935 in the middle of a depression...and 21yrs later he was known across the world..
And for the next 21...He couldn't live a normal life like you, me and most other people....
Also he was surrounded by 'YES MEN'...Who never questioned him..
Micky Jackson had the same problem (being noticed in public everywhere...tabloid press camping outside his house etc...
But no matter what anyone says about the truck driver's life style. No one can dispute that on a hot muggy July evening in 1954, a 19yr old kid changed music forever with this song...
