The news coverage of the tornados in the south, particularly Alabama is bringing me to tears.
Over 300 people killed all due to a storm that lasted only minutes.
Just heard a story about a family of four people. The little boy was thrown from his house into a tree. Rescue workers got him out of the tree and took him to the hospital but the rest of his family didn't survive.
A woman was being interviewed and crying that all her pictures are gone. All she could say was, I don't know what to do.
All these people are gone. It doesn't compare to those who have fallen in the wars but these were people were going about their lives on a daily basis. Those that are left in this one town of Alabama don't know where to start to rebuild their lives.
A royal wedding took place, a space shuttle will be launching from Florida later on today, Japan is still trying to rebuild, gas prices are skyrocketing, uprising all over the middle east and yet, life has to go on.
Knowing that life goes on and hoping that there are better days ahead doesn't keep me from feeling the sadness today of all those lives that were lost in the southern states of my country...

hey snuggey...
you brought tears to my eyes...
what you just said, I was thinking the same all day. I read the hurricane thread and I thought I was a lucky girl living in the Netherlands....no such of these disasters here.
I also read you were in your basement at some point... I was worried about you and others.

seeing you posting this, makes me feel sad too.
I am so sorry for your countrymen....
Yeah, we had a warning that a two tornados were on their way to my area. I got my cell phone, important papers and car keys and went to the basement. It got dark, windy and heavy rain but thankfully it traveled east of me so I was able to come out of hiding. I was scared in that half hour for my daughter who is a police officer and out on the roads and for myself. I knew that if it hit my area I would have nothing left.
I should turn the tv off because I'm hearing these men and women cry that they don't know where to turn. The town is flattened, nothing is left but a pile of wood and concrete. They are trying to be thankful that they still have their lives but they know what's ahead for their lives.
President Obama has landed in Tuscaloosa, Alabama now and has promised that FEMA help is on it's way. I just hope the help comes faster than it did with Katrina.
im having a very very hard day inside myself today toocant find that spark so far but i know something will happen today- something tiny that will shift this darkness
but til then i am allowing myself the tears
Each time I say I'm okay but then another story comes on and the tears start again. That's a good way to put it Mindful. Allow myself the tears. It's just so, so sad
carenza: one thought that stayed with me all day was the following.
I saw the British Royals in their cars, on their way to church. a crowd was standing there, screaming out of exitement.
I thought what it would have cost to arrange all this. all the security and stuff..
the amount of money that was spent today.....how many lives could it have saved?
one part of the world is celebrating and having fun....the other part is in misery, hunger, war and danger.
it's not fair really.
so many peeps lose their lifes in a split second and at the same time, two peeps getting married and we, the world, celebrate.
this thought came to me and stayed with me all day. so I understand your sentiments.
In all honesty, I don't begrude Kate and William having a lavish fanfare. I am glad for anyone who is happy. The financial help will be there to rebuild but lives lost are GONE! Little babies GONE!!

Thanks Snuggs for your letter of concern last night. I really wasn't expecting any mail from anyone from CS! Your letter, and one other from another lady, was waiting in my mailbox.
Until I opened those, I thought "hmmmm, must be a couple of scam letters!" , but much to my surprise...it was from two of the members here. This made me realize that there are people on here that do feel concern for others. It made feel feel so good, just to receive these 2 letters. Again, like I said in me reply back to your message..."I APPRECIATE YOU"!
OK, everyone....TGIF, a beautiful weekend (weather wise) is promised...maybe it will aide in the recovery tasks for rescue workers here in Alabama. Praying that the total of deaths, doesn't continue to climb. God bless all of you...again, thanks!

Ah, just what I need today, to be appreciated. Now that you are safe we can attack you... with luv.
I'm wondering if the day is going to keep on with bad news.
Our space shuttle was just scrubbed because of two heaters not working. The bus with the astronauts was two hours from launch and they had to turn around and go back.
This is supposed to be the last space shuttle Endeavor expedition and it may not even take place if they don't fix the heaters in tune with the weather window.
One thing after another. It could have been worse if they launched and found out too late that the heaters weren't working.
I can very much understand how people feel in Alabama. And my heart goes out to them. My heart also goes out to the many women and men that will fall victim to tragedies yet to come.
In my country it only rains and for the first time in history yesterday we had hail. It was some bad weather. Our atmosphere is changing, our world is changing and people aren't.
These earthquakes in haiti and japan are on larger scales and now the US can relate to the magnitude of these present day storms as they were many tornados at once affecting different states. Even though there are so many disasters happening at once in the world we still find the time, the man power and finances to fight wars.
This is surely the signs of the times and while we feel for these victims we must come together to assist in every way possible to restore homes and bring hope to thier lives.

So John, it's Friday. Let's party....
Thanks again Snuggs...even for the invite to "party"!
Your alright in my book. Have a great day, maybe watch cartoons for a while...not all this bads news! Cartoons just might be therapeutic...
Snuggs, thanks for this thread! We need to keep priorities in check. Since, my state is in tornado alley, and we were blessed by no hits, we did receive some excessive flooding. We have no loss of life. We are so use to these, we actually just put ourselves on auto pilot. My prayers to all in these areas!

Hi Yes, you are in tornado alley. I think your state went through it's share of tornados earlier this year.
