Ambrose2007: Yeah, CC, that really shocked me. I honestly wonder why he was so upset. Regardless, there was no excuse for that outburst, imo.
Steroids. No, seriously, he's admitted to it before. Think it's called roid rage..or maybe that has to do with hemroids..that can cause rage. K..am rambling..carry on.

rolling on the floor laughing Insightful as always, Nan!

He claims not to use steroids. I find that VERY hard to believe. You can't build to 700 benches and 1200 squats without a LOT of help and tremendous amounts of hard work.

I feel guilty enough taking herbs and DHEA and antioxidants to get my weights "up" and keep them up. uh oh blushing laugh bouquet

I use pot and junk food to keep my weight up to par....

I should add that I believe age factors into this, too. As you get older, it can become more and more like an impossible yet powerfully desired dream to have one last shot at the fairytale/honeymoon romance - a last chance to feel the overriding passion, butterflies in your stomach, rose-colored glasses, and all those wonderful things laugh - all the fixins and trapping of youth. To experience that once again is to be, I think, young again.

But jeez, it's a lot harder - even for someone in my relatively physically elite condition - to endure those hormones at fifty than at twenty, that's for sure. As a young man, I hardly noticed them. The roar of hormones flowed seamlessly into all my actions and feelings. Now they're like one of those emergency epinephrine injections that catapult you from zero to 90 in two seconds...at least that's how I experience "love hormones."

I used to call my recent love experience a "high." It was very much like that, and a much more distinct feeling than it was when I was younger (I mean I can feel it kick in harder and more clearly, and can distinguish it vividly from my normal state; couldn't do that at 20).

I wonder if research has ever been done on this subject? hmmm wine

Ambrose2007: Man, that's me to a fault. I sometimes think I was too honest, because a lot of confessions which pointed to past behaviors that weren't great got used against me later. The problem with too much disclosure is that it can bias someone against you to a degree. Full disclosure is great in principle - I still mostly subscribe to it - but I would be somewhat cautious now revealing my worst side from the past. After all, you may very well have changed those behaviors or attitudes, but if someone believes you have them, they might "see" them when they truly aren't there.

And you may have noticed that I haven't exactly held back here online of late. That has turned some against me, for sure, but it doesn't seem to have phased others. So I guess I don't regret it too much...except for the pain it may have caused to certain others.

If both partners are really determined, Alaska, you can maintain the illusion begun in virtual reality into "in-flesh" interactions. I think that's possible when there is a genuine connection, at least. What I mean is that you can focus on the "fantasy"/good things far out of proportion to the gritty reality things. But that's a problem in many in-flesh relationships, too, of course.

I began my virtual love with the powerful desire to have a fairytale love affair with a great soulmate (and I think she did as well, to perhaps a slightly lesser degree) where she was the princess and I the prince and we'd stroll off happily into the sunset together. We would be like the symbol of romantic, undying love.

I think that allowed us to go on as long as we did, despite some really heavy duty obstacles and basic incompatibilities. We wanted to believe so much. But perhaps that speaks more about us as individuals than about the pitfalls of virtual love?

Since this thread is here, I feel someone (me) should make this point even if only a few take the time to read it...A "primary" stumbling block to "ending" a relationship, ie "The Long Goodbye", that began on a site like CS, a dating site that offers many venues which lend themselves extremely well to the "connection" process, is the lack of anonymity these venues end up creating!...When we meet someone and we are feeling the initial highs, we want to share our positive experience with our virtual friends...We can't wait to share the good news, validate online dating, shout it to the world that we found "the" one! We savor the good wishes and kind words from fellow CS'ers, bask in the attention, and pat ourselves on the back for being that one couple in a small fraction of a % to succeed...When the relationship sours and we want to remain members, we sometimes drag it out in an effort to avoid hearing the "I told you so", avoid letting other members down, avoid facing up to our "virtual" failure....cool

Dagosto: (I have redacted a portion of the original post which has not matched my own personal experience.)

As you describe it in your second paragraph, Ambrose, yes, been there, done that. Twice. Both times resulted in real-life personal meetings. Sadly, neither relationship ultimately worked out. Not all relationships do, no matter how they begin. So I am not averse to trying again.

I would rather be in love with someone, even though I don't see her daily, than not be in love with anyone I see every day.
Well put Dag. handshake

Oops..prematurely posted..hate when that happens. Well Mr. J welcome to being human. When in love we all get euphoric. No one could tell us at that time that there could possibly be an "end" to this love. That's what love is..believing the person you"re with will be that "forever" person. And what's wrong with that?? So we chirp like love struck birds how we met and are in love. We get support from our cs friends for finding love. Then it happens..it ends. How could this happen? We were perfect?? Well..it happens..more often than not. And our cs friends hold our hands as we hurt. They stop us from making bad decisions, help us recover our dignity, and assure us that we aren't the only ones who have hurt this way. It's all apart of the human condition. Should we be ashamed of being human? In some circumstances yes but in this case not at all. It's how we learn from each other and grow. The only rule to remember to follow is no matter how hurt we are..we should never belittle our past partners or make their lives uncomfortable here.
