First I would like to thank all of you "city folk" who have such crazy ideas about the country, very funny stuff. But, in response to the OP, hell yes they make a good pair. Best lady I ever had was pretty much a city girl, til I took her out of it, and she loved it. Had to go back, and is now working on getting a piece of the country life for herself. Some of us just hate the concrete. And if you ask me, THAT is where most of the meth is being made. But hey, if I catch a whiff of it around here, yeah, there will be some shooting going on.
I don't know how the numbers statistically compare with the city, but meth manufacturing in rural areas is a growing, almost epidemic, problem. I mean, to the point where it's polluting the air.
I can't post links, but if you'll do some googling on meth manufacturing in rural areas, there's plenty of info on it.
Well, I have a friend back in Washington that lives in a very up scale neighborhood, "nicest" one in the city, and only a block away from her they have already condemned 2 houses that had meth labs, and down in the marina, a couple of months ago 3 boats with labs on them blew. And those are just the labs that she "came across" during day to day errands (the houses had signs posted all over them, that she saw on her way home from the grocery store, and she just happened to be walking her dog by the waterfront when the firetrucks were there). Seems to me, that just running into so many, not even seeing it on TV, they have problems in the cities too.
There's plenty going on in the city..it's just a major widespread ever-increasing problem in the country, too. Abandoned barns or old houses...a lot of people don't even live out there; they just run the labs there.
well i am going to add my .02 in this as i have just recently gotten out of a country boy/ city girl marriage. No it does not work due to the differences of how each person was raised. My wife was so used to the city that she did not get her license until she had lived here in Alabama for over a year. Before she moved down here she was used to walking to the store, which was right up the road. Here though right up the road means a minimum of 1 mile. She did not even know how to drive a car, so i had to teach her how to drive. and i don't think that i could survive outside of the country.
I am still confused about whether I am a city girl or a country girl. I love the city, I love being able to shop in a downtown and just spend the day wondering around. I moved from a city of a couple million to a city of about 5,000 (or is that a town?) I miss the activity and busyness of the city. I miss going to live theater and out to dinner at a varitiy of different places.
On the other side of that. I grew up in a small town of less then a 1000. I could leave my car unlocked but had to have a car in the city I didn't have a car and could take transit any place I wanted to go. I love to see the stars at night one of those things you don't get to see as much in the city. There is nothing like the fresh air of being in the country or the mountains. (The beach is still the best for fresh air.) The quiet and stillness of the country does my heart good. I am not sure that I want to bring my son up in a city that could give him choices that I don't want him to have to make. I am aware that some of those choices will still have to be made but I hope that it will be less pressure for him in the long run.
As for city girls and country boys my ex was a city boy but I don't think that had anything to do with why we are no longer together. Now I really like a farmer and I think if the feelings go both ways we could have a great relationship.
As for the meth issue. I live in Oregon. The problem with that is that we have a very large meth problem here. The worst in the country. We now have to buy a lot of over the counter medication from the pharmacy. This is ok. I would rather do that then have more drugs made. I hope that they can get a handle on this problem before my son is faced with the problem.
