Martia: You said it.So it means that if voting stopped being compulsory Labour would have a tough job getting into power for a couple of terms until things settled down.

Also Labour has done a good job over the years changing the boundaries in their favour.

And here we are....the Carbon Tax wait till it really starts to hit ...think 10 bucks a week will offset it! what a joke biggest con job ever,Gillard and Co have lurched from one disaster after another too gutless to hold an election preferring to be blackmailed by an idealistic power hungry Greenie who would take us back to the horse and cart era if he could.

I am not silly enough to think the Libs will be our salvation, if Tony Abbott can start to think about policies instead of wasting all his time sledging Julia Gillard he might just have a good chance of walking all over them come next election.

Wish there was a better alternative than him.

I know that when I do sell my property the first thing I will do in our next home is install Solar Power and Make sure I have a 10,000 litre water tank as well.

The Carbon tax will not make one iota of difference,as for Australia setting an example for the rest of the world I doubt anyone would know or care.

Talk about the Emperor's New Clothes that is exactly what the Carbon tax is.... the biggest con ever and WE the people have to WEAR it.

It's a done deal Martia, once a new tax is introduced, there aren't too many cases of them being taken away by oposing political parties. Labour thought they would ditch the GST, couldn't as the income was sorely needed just like the govt needs the carbon income.

What I hate is the Con job they are doing... at least we knew the GST was a tax and the public had a choice, they voted the Libs back in....that year I put a line through my voting slip.

I have always been very interested in Politics and I despair at the sheer ignorance of a lot the voting public.
I hated school and left at 15years old but I never stopped reading and learning about things that affect us here and now.

I fear for our future, we the human race what are we becoming, I am bad enough with my desktop.
But I see the younger generation addicted to Ipods, Ipads,Facebook or whatever.... it completely rules their lives and in a way isolates them from human face to face contact.
Where will it end and what will be the outcome...I just hope it doesent come to quickly so I am not around to see it. sigh

daggyone: In a book I recently read, they made a prophecy that Obama would unite the Arab worlds and bring world peace.

that book must have been written by someone who has never been to the middle east. Arabs hate each other, almost as much as they hate westerners...

They would only be united by their hate for us - If Obama Nuked Mecca, the entire Arab world would unite against all westerners.

Short of that, nothing will ever unit them...

GST. I had a retail business about 30 years ago and the MINIMUM Sales Tax was 12.5%. But there were a few items that had no tax (and still no GST tax - 10%). Most people did not realise they were paying Sales Tax, they just accepted what it cost. Okay, the public was ripped off by the profiteering businesses raising their prices pre-GST. Theoretically, we are better off now paying less tax (GST or Sales Tax). I went to NZ in 1991 and found much supprt for the 12.5% GST that the country had. Every import was so much cheaper. Ford Sierras were a family car while here they might have won Bathurst but very few could afford them

Well said. Although Daggy, the correct spelling for the "workers" party is LABOR. Although I do prefer the better reference to them as "Labor(ing)"

There is a chinese massage place around the corner from the office that promises a happy ending.

I think you would have a better chance with them.
