Kim Jong Il of North Korea just died. Just a little bit more instability we didn't need right now. (although - he really wasn't what one would call "Stable")
His 20 something son Kim Jong Un is his appointed successor.
Just what we need right now - a twenty something ruler, of a potential nuclear armed state...
When I was a kid, I used to like to smile at random strangers (yeah I was a wierd kid) just to see if they would smile back - probably 90% of the time they did (the other 10% probably thought I was a weird kid.)
I still smile at pretty girls once in a while, and yes they usually do smile back (the ones that don't start screaming "stranger danger") and pretty girls do usually look even prettier when they smile...
Mobile phones work off local towers, and local power... (6 to 12 mile range.) Phones would die... (unless you have a sat phone - but generally only sailors bother with those. And you still need a charger.)
And Merri, we could buld you a hair blower with a steam generator, and a small turbine... (could steam curl your hair at the same time... )
Interesting hypothetical... I seem to remember an Twighlight Zone episode that was similar... But the actress in that one just wanted a day of peace and quiet...
Naw, I just looked at her and was amazed... I thought about stopping, and challenging her, but I realized the poor little thing was probably stressed beyond belief... my fault for walking too close... (but there are so many ducks, they are almost part of the landscape - you don't think about them as little feathery persons...)
So I muttered an appology (yes, I said sorry to a duck) and walked away... As I left, she snapped at my golf club trolley, then watched me walk away.
Never get to close to a mother and her young... (I would have thought I would have learned that lesson by now...)
Don't feel you have to buy if it isn't what you want. You can afford to rent for a little while until you find what you are looking for... Don't accept something if it isn't going to make you happy long term... (sort of like a partner - but take away the rent comment - that would be icky... )
Sounds brilliant... And yes the neighbourhood is the key, also think about what you do when you are away from home. Are your hobbies easy to get to? (mine are darts and golf... but whatever yours are - is it easy to get to them?)Shopping? etc...?
I got attacked by a duck today on the golf course...
(Does that sound like the begining of a joke or what - but it is what really happened... )
Here I am, 6' tall 82 Kgs dragging along 40kgs of clubs on my trolley, and she comes after me. I guess I walked a little too close to this momma duck and her little ducklings... What kind of courage does it take to take on something nearly 100 times bigger than you?
I'm with you 100% on this one Martia. I fully respect people have various beliefs, and I would never try to disuade them of their beliefs (even if I think they might be delusional - if we speak to an imaginary friend, we generally get institutionalized... or at least medicated. But call it religion, and it is fine... )
But I do take exception to religious bigots who believe they are better, and they know better, and try to force their beliefs down other peoples throats - so to speak... I had enough of that growing up - and I won't tollerate it now.
Everything can be amazing if you think about it. Ever think about how your hand works? Pick something, anything, and really think about it... wow, how good is it?
ps. I have a couple of black Rhino pictures I took (at a distance) when I was on safari in Kenya. I'll see if I can find them for you.
Hey NL, I've got no family this side of the world, so no ties.
I have many friends in Thailand, because I lived there a few years.
(the afore mentioned comments about christmas)
And, you have never experienced New Years eve until you have lived through New Years eve in Thailand - no sleep for at least two days (more likely three)The Thai's are the biggest party people on the planet... They even beat Bob Marley and the whole carribean...
So much of a no brainer for me... (sit alone in a two bedroom unit for a week - or go to Thailand for a month and party...)
RE: do you think or want to reach this far
Hey, I didn't think I would make it this far.... and it has been a very close thing on more than one occasion...But yeah, now I'm looking at reaching 2062...
