"Are you going to believe me? Or your lying eyes?"

That's the plea Newt Gingrich is making to voters nowadays in a desperate bid to hang on to his flavor-of-the-week status.

But whenever I hear Newt try to sweep his Big Government record under the rug, I can hardly help but shake my head.

You see, if you and I are truly serious about defeating President Obama in 2012 and turning our country around, nominating Newt Gingrich is the absolute LAST thing the Republican Party should do.

Newt Gingrich's record as the consummate Washington, D.C. insider is crystal clear.

For his support of the individual mandate central to "ObamaCare" and other Big Government schemes, Newt raked in nearly $40 million from health care giants.

For his efforts to stop conservative legislators from working to end government involvement in housing, Newt got $1.6 million from Freddie Mac.

And Newt shamelessly referred to feathering his nest with taxpayer money as "the standard Washington fee."

And this is all while I was doing everything I could to warn my fellow Members of Congress about just how much damage the housing bubble would cause.

Sadly, Newt was the one Congress listened to, and America paid a steep price.

The truth is, selling access and padding your own personal bank accounts at the expense of your country is hardly conservative.

Neither is supporting $700 BILLION TARP bailouts.

Neither is cutting TV ads with Nancy Pelosi or cosponsoring over 400 bills with her.

Neither is consistently supporting "global warming" legislation and pushing the environmental alarmists' agenda.

Neither is voting with Ted Kennedy to create the Department of Education.

Neither is campaigning across the country with Al Sharpton and Obama's Education Secretary for even more Big Government federal "solutions" for our education system.

Neither is joining with Big Government liberals to slam Paul Ryan's attempt to get our federal budget under control as "right wing social engineering."

Of course, Newt loves to make sure we all know he knows a little about history.

But he constantly demands you and I just ignore his own!

Well, June, this isn't a college classroom, where changing positions on a whim has no consequences, and fascination with Big Government ideas to fix all of the world's problems is encouraged.

This is the real world, and here in the real world Americans are hurting.

And they're hurting because establishment insiders have been ruling the roost in Washington, D.C. for too long.

I believe the American people understand we simply cannot afford another counterfeit conservative.

If Republican voters are truly serious about defeating President Obama and getting our country back on the right track, we must understand that, as well.

Like Newt, I have a long public record. But it's not one I have to apologize for or explain away.

I've spent 30 years fighting Big Government, not growing it.

That's because I didn't come to Washington, D.C. to get rich. I came to make a difference.

So I'm not running from my voting record. I'm not running from my public statements. I'm not running from my predictions.

I'm running on them.

And now my campaign has been catapulted into the top tier nationally and in EVERY key early state just three weeks before voters begin selecting the Republican nominee for President.

The American people are realizing that I'm running for President because I believe we need someone who will put faith, family, and freedom above all else.

With me, what you see and hear is what you get. Wouldn't that be a nice change?

Together, we can stop the counterfeit conservatives AND the liberals in the White House.

We can take back and Restore America Now.

For Liberty,

Ron Paul

I like Ron Paul, but I think some creative liberties were taken in that letter.

From my perspective Ron Paul is a bit of a fresh breeze blowing from the right. However as stated by mustbenutz I don't think he can beat Obama, in fact, the whole Repub debate spectacle has been the most entertaining thing on TV. It's like a Barnum & Baily circus with class acts like Rick Perry, Herman Cain, Newt, and Bachman taking turns doing high wire acts and falling off the tightrope and landing in a heap on the sawdust laced with elephant dung.

This whole thing about Iowa being of such importance is lost on most Americans especially those from a more secular part of the country. To me, Iowa means less than nothing, in fact, I would cheer if these caucuses were held in a drastically less religion dominated state.

I don't think Newt Gingrich has a ghost of a chance to win the white house with his record. The democrats (with the help of all the dirt being floated to the top by the other Republicans in the field) will tear him to pieces.

The Republican party with John Behner and Eric Cantor and their Tea Party antics this year, are assuring the re-election of Barrak Obama, who, by comparison, looks like the only adult in the room.

Matt Damon apparently doesn't think Obama's the adult.

Matt Damon rips President Obama in Elle magazine, blasting his leadership qualities and saying he’d prefer “a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done.”

dunno

Clinton didnt' praise Gingrich last night on O'Reilly, but he sure didn't speak ill of him either.

Absolutely, ooby! Ron Paul is the only one not in the ring.
Perhaps he is selling the tickets???

ooby_dooby: Iowa is not that important in that if a candidate wins Iowa, it does not mean he will will the nomination. But what it does and will do, is give more Media Coverage to the prospective Nominee! This is a GOOD Thing!

Obama is a spoiled brat child, far from being the only adult in the room!! Ron Paul would be the only adult in the room.

The trouble with voters in America is that we have been conditioned to be competitive minded and root for the "winner", according to what everyone else thinks, instead of voting for the BEST MAN.

"Oh, I don't think he could beat him." Well, as long as people think that way, he won't get the vote. But if EVERYONE who thinks that way, goes ahead and votes for him, he could WIN! Stop trying to be on the winning team and vote from your HEART.

If you believe we need an Honest man with a proven track record in the Whitehouse, how can your conscience allow you to not give this man your vote?

That's all I have to say now.

I couldn't agree more about voting for the best person who will do the most good for the country. I don't vote based on who has a shot at winning. Only a fool would do that. Unfortunatly there are a lot of fools around. There is only one person running from the right that I would consider voting for over Obama and that's John Huntsman. I don't think Paul would be good for the economy as he would plunge us into a depression by going after spending with a Machette in an attempt to balance the budget. Sometimes you have to spend money to make money or to fix something before it gets so bad that it must be replaced, like a bridge. Austerity is great, but excess austerity can cause the economy to reach a tipping point where it wont recover...ever. If you want an example, just look at what outsourcing has done to our manufacturing sector.

Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry Fail to Qualify for Virginia Ballot - ABC News

After a scramble to gather the requisite number of signatures in his homestate, Newt Gingrich failed to make it on the ballot in the state of Virginia.

Texas Governor Rick Perry also failed to submit enough signatures to qualify for the Virginia ballot. Perry’s spokesman Ray Sullivan released a statement indicating that the campaign plans to review Virginia state law and decide whether or not to challenge the Virginia GOP’s ruling.

“We will closely review the facts and law to determine whether an appeal or challenge is warranted” the statement reads.

The deadline for gathering the signatures to qualify for the Virginia ballot was Thursday at 5pm.

State rules require that a candidate submit 10,000 signatures from registered Virginia voters, including at least 400 from each of the state’s 11 Congressional districts.

Gingrich’s campaign was trying to meet that deadline – even bringing the candidate back to Virginia Wednesday for signature-gathering events, as Mitt Romney was boasting that he had cleared the Virginia bar early.

Since Thursday, the state’s Republican party has been verifying the signatures and tweeting the results.

Early this morning, results for Gingrich came in and they were not good:

Republican party tweets
@VA_GOP: after verification, RPV has determined that Newt Gingrich did not submit required 10k signatures and has not qualified for the VA primary.

The Gingrich campaign released a statement on Saturday morning announcing their plans to work with the commonwealth’s Republican party to pursue an “aggressive” write-in campaign for the state primary.

“Voters deserve the right to vote for any top contender,” reads the statement put forth by Gingrich campaign director Michael Krull. “We will work with the Republican Party of Virginia to pursue an aggressive write-in campaign to make sure that all of the voters of Virginia are able to vote for the candidate of their choice.”

Out of the seven leading GOP candidates only two – Ron Paul and Mitt Romney- have qualified to have their names appear on the ballot in Virginia’s March 6th primary.

Ron Paul qualified!

ron paul is proly the very best candidate for president. however, every person that has grown up in a democrat voting home. has been taught since birth that to vote for anyone other than a democrat, amounts to treason against home and country. if the democrats rolled out charles manson as their nominee. these same democrat party die hards would vote for him. that's why the republicans have to be mindful about running a man that stands a chance of winning. now having said that, i dont think gingrich has much of a chance against president oblameabush.
