WW11 was a safe war for US , never will the US be safe again with nukes . Another global war will have no winners . Makes no sense to make gear for a global war . Makes more sense to house , educate and look after the health needs of the low paid .
Solidarity tax Rob ? haven't heard about this one . Bet the greens here are already working on it . More than a few people around here think that the sooner the pricks stuff the show the better , as there will be more people with ability rebuild it . Sooner or later our dear leaders will learn the value of people paying tax rather than the civil service being payed tax .

Solidarity tax Rob , sounds very much like a poll tax . Went down very badly in England when Thatcher tried to bring it in , cost her her job . Not to sure the Greeks are going to sit still for this . Catchy name is not going to make people like this one . Ten million Greeks running wild may well be the result . Stuff their luck , hope ours is better .grin

I ran thread on the Nature of Greeceā€™s derivatives based financial problems in Feb 2010, the thread has been closed however it is still a good review see how we saw there problems then compared with now

Greek banks have borrowed about 40 billion euros from the European Central Bank (ECB), using Greek government bonds as collateral. The Greek National Bank since the beginning of November increased its investments in these bonds to 18 billion euros.

What's wrong with Super?
At least people have something to show for their lives once they retire.
Used to be people would turn around and say, all that work and what have I got to show for it?
Now we at least have 9% of our earnings put aside + interest if we're lucky.

I believe quite a few school teachers wouldn't agree with you, given there super saving were all lost, secondly you readily access the funds, got turn 65 or 70 or something, thirdly most super funds have failed to accumulate interest on the savings at all.
In my opinion better off purchasing single premium assurance policies, least then you have access to at least some of the savings, usually could access up to 90% the next day.

America borrowed money to bail out infeasible carmakers and banks.
We have been subsidising our carmakers and now might subsidse the aluminium and whoever else holds the govt of the day to ransom with the threat of hundreds of job losses on the cards.

Personally we need to be throwing good money after good industry not trying to run an uphill battle keeping business that can't compete on a world stage afloat.

With the money we have thrown down the drain at banks (there sending the jobs offshore anyway), the car industry and other unprofitable industry, we could have easily set up the world's biggest irrigated area in central Australia using water from the monsoonal areas and solar pumping it inland.

Just watched 4 corners ...very interesting being the ABC has always been very much Pro Labour.

This time much to my amazement they weren't.... they found out Gillard's office was writing her acceptance speech a fortnight before the coo on Rudd...when they asked her outright if that was true she made a very bad job of trying to get round that question the interviewer wouldn't let her off the hook and she refused to say yes or no! boy she looked uneasy.

They were not any easier on Rudd but he must have been tipped off as he steadfastly refused to appear on 4 Corners, usually he jumps at any chance to appear on the media outlets.

The Buzzards are circling. dancing

yeah time will tell how long it takes ah?

I fail to see where the Constitution allows government to tax the people sure-up union or any other jobs.
I fail to see where the Constitution provides Ministers of the Crown a right to interfere in trade and commerce other than between States.

That includes forced supper contributions, reserve bank weighting interests rates, nor either, print money on other than paper.
In particular i cannot understand Government enacting laws that are in consistence with the POWERS OF THE PARLIAMENT set out in the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Australia.

Purpose of government is to provide governance not play business games or other activities inconsistent with government powers

Doesn't really prove anything other than all pollies are crooked from all persuasions.
I'm sure Croger, Reith and Costello never plotted against Howard at all while they were in power?

Ah but it seems that there is a rat in the ranks that is why Gillard has gagged all of her ministers from speaking to journalists.... we all know Rudd is behind all of it, hell hath no fury like a Rudd scorned.

When labour votes Gillard out lets hope they will vote in Steven Smith or the like because if Rudd gets power again all of Aus is done for as he really is a very nasty piece of work.dunno

As long as Bill Shorten isn't leader, I don't mind. He is a piece of work.
I heard on radio this week the only way the coalition could win is if Abbott was dethroned by Malcolm Turnbull.
Only thing is Malcolm is for an emissions trading scheme - a major thing I could see them all having a pow wow with as they have promised to axe 12,000 public servants mainly concerning the running of an emissions trading scheme & carbon tax.
