Just watched "The Great Divide" on ABC. Seems like Flannery and Doyle are divided all along their trip more or less following the Great Dividing Range. They visited a NSW pub near the Vic border and had to settle for VB
frustrated doh doh doh frustrated frustrated

Brief chat with a NSW farmer who has 4 wind generators on his property and earning nearly $40,000 for it.banana banana banana At least it will help with his Carbon tax.

But if he was offered enough for a nuclear power plant, he would consider it if it was worthwhile, and move.

Bad luck Rob, if you owned the hills you could have wind generators generating an income for you. But they do look a bit hard to get up there.

Yes, I watched a show a while back... and the people said that the buzzing noise was so constant, there was no reprieve from the noise, and they were becoming ill from it...

so in that case, its not worth it... dont stress Rob... maybe its better you have your peace and quiet... wave

When I was in Dalyston, we had a heck of trouble with telstra 1,2,3 but Optus was perfect. We use Lyca now as it's 1c flagfall and 0c minute to Thailand or 0.1c minute to a mobile in Thailand.thumbs up

I also have a telstra i65 phone, which is a rural phone, out in the country it can pick up any telstra or optus tower... great when I was in WA...except when driving through pine forest plantations...doh

The real point of the show was the great divide over many things. The Great Divide divides where our rivers flow in the eastern states.

Telstra or oprus. Vb or real beer (does not mean XXXX is a real beer).

When in Sydney, an Optus tower was very close and my tenants could not get reception. In my 75 kms to work each day, I lose Telstra reception for 2 secs on the way home only. Staff member who lives near there can only get Optus. Too close to a tower or having a hill in the way interferes with ALL digital reception.

Those who are lucky enough to have satelite feeds (many country people) get much better reception. But (there is always a 'but') many satelites are low orbit and rely on 'line of sight' with low orbiuting many satelites (Telstat) which means hills or tree cover can impact on reception.

There is a mob which runs a system based on the equator satelites (only a few but in much higher orbit) which effectively give you better world wide coveridge, unless you are at the North or South Pole. And only charge in 15 sec blocks with a 2 year usage date on prepaid with a standard call charge no matter if you are calling next door or the other side of the world. And no 'landline' costs as Telstra offers for their 'Australia only' calls.
