If they were to grow sugar cane for fuel as suggested and export the fuel back to china they probably wont pay any tax at all either.

Reminds me a bit about financial decline in the early 90s. NAB were one I was aware of (probably other major banks as well) when liabilities were well and truly called in an "No, we don't care how good a payer you were, give us your assets."

Capt Cook Cruises in Sydney had a $1 million dollar loan with NAB and had $13 million in assets. NAB wanted money NOW in a cash-strapped economy. No choice and NAB put it out to open tender and a Jaanese company bought it lock stock and barrel for $1 million, just what they owed.

All overseas bookings paid for overseas, all imported staff paid at home. Company in Aust ran at a "recorded loss" for many years and paid no taxes in Australia.

And the Brits and Yanks have done the same for many, many years.

How much more can we afford to give away? We have lost our public utilities to overseas conglomerates, how much more do we have?

17,808 Australians served during the Korean war, with 341 killed, 1,216 wounded and 30 captured.

7,000 Australians served and 51 died in Malaya—although only 15 were on operations—and another 27 were wounded.

3,500 Australians served during Operations in the Borneo Confrontation; casualties included 16 dead, with seven killed in action and eight wounded.

60,000 Australians served in the Vietnam war; 521 were killed and more than 3,000 were wounded.
not to mention their shoddy bloody machinery and electrical goods that cause death every day

well the profits would be theirs as they own the crops, not Australian farmers.
One thing no one looks at is that this stuff needs fertilizing, the price of that stuff is high enough, no wonder BHP were trying to buy that Canadian potash co.
Whatever happens, future govt's will be calling for the East coast dole bludgers to migrate NW to take up the minimum wage positions going on these newly irrigated farms lots or have their payments suspended.

Don't know if my post applies to what you are talking about, just a thought.

What ever they do they will need to use our transport to get it to a port and the our ports to ship it offshore, more jobs for WA. Not that we need them here, we are talking undeveloped land sitting in waste, the world is having a food shortage and WA has the water up north plus the weather for growing food fast and big! China has the land and so does Europe, what they don’t have is the weather to grow crops all year round, we do! Australia exports 30million dollars of food now, with new investors it opens new markets, our farmers could use a better free market!

Wrong Blizz, so very wrong. You, like many others ,may not have paid attention to the umpteen $billion deal Qld did with Indian Power Station company for coal. They will have their own rail line and dedicated port facilties. Lot of angst from farmers losing their land and also the trains running 24/7 through their properties.

And like a lot of foreign companies operating in Austrlaia, everything is paid for overseas so we have very little money coming in. Basically, it is only local wages and expenses that we derive anything.

And the Chinese have usually brought their own "expertise" and equipment to establish and work their projects. The Chinese Consulate in Toorak had an extension put on about 6 years back. All labour was from China as our builders are all spies and will install microphones and cameras. Most of the materials where pre-assembled in China (quicker construction technique?). And most of the tools had to come from China as the workers were unable to read English instructions for drills and hammers.
