You fellas dominate these political threads... the threads are started for lots of people to inject their thoughts, not just to argue and debate amongst the 3 of you...

Clearly you all have various points of information, and various access to different sources to obtain this inforamtion.

if sharing your information was all you had in mind, that would be good, then the rest of us could view what you share,

But this constant " who is right and who isn't" is just over the top. It confuses the heck out of everything, fact and fiction... so put your egos down for a bit...

and be respectful to each other...

in short...SYRRUP when you have said your bit... leave it alone...

This is not a debate thread... and if you want one... ask CS for a Brawl thread... which is where the 3 of you... especially you Mr Alberta need to be...

This is supposed to be a sharing of Ideas, not the way you are carrying on...

MAKE IT RESPECTFUL... I am sick to death of trying to gleen some sort of truth on these current affair threads... because all I gleen is DISRESPECT..

ENOUGH!!! Look at what you did to the Superpower thread...

The thing is with all this blame of who did it..

I really doesn't matter anymore... someone did it... that is clear, and if the govt had any concience they would not allow this to happen.. so take away all the guns, like in our country, and that is that.. and scrap them... and show that they are being destroyed... which is what they did here.. end of story.

Either way, if the Assad govt. there cannot keep their country together, then they are responsible...

so which ever way it goes... they are not going to be viewed well by the rest of us...

Lady, with the greatest of respect, YOU ARE A BREATH OF FRESH AIR!

I agree with almost everything you have said, the logistics of your suggestion to disarm would be almost impossible in this situation tho..
considering that arms are being smuggled in to The Rebels in Syria by certain countries.
This has almost always been the situation in the M.E. (eg)Libya, Afgan, Iraq etc.

However I agree with your charge that the Syrian Government is ultimately in charge and a cause of deaths of innocents, as are the countries denying the opportunity of Kofi Annan achieving Peace, by sending funding and arms to the Rebels.

Regards From unarmed Ireland..

Really? Do you, or have you ever lived in Syria? Do you know how much of the killing is ethnic? or religious? and how much is caused by Government? or Rebel supporters? Or are you just basing your views on the one-sided, partisan views of the US press? I mean it's not like the rebels wouldn't orchestrate a massacre for their own benefit would they? Oh and before you start having a go at the Russians for supporting their allies, ask yourself how many times the US has vetoed similar complaints about the behavior of the Israelis, allies to the US?

Yes respectful. Not like the following exchange from yourself to me;

"I am tempted to call you the idiot that soooooo many others have called you HERE.....

But I REFUSE to stoop to your bigoted standards, so instead:

I CHALLENGE YOU TO SHOW me just ONE, ONE thing I have said to EITHER YOU or anybody else here that was an UNTRUTH or for that matter EVEN incorrect.

And then I will join the rest here who are sick to their bellies of your Poisonous propaganda and egotistical drivel and just say the following every time you spout."

Then when provided you with your 'untruth' your 'respectful ' reply was;

""BLAH rolling on the floor laughing Blah rolling on the floor laughing Blah rolling on the floor laughing""

I look forward to the day when you follow your own rules.professor

I am Ashamed to say that Alberta is in fact correct, when saying that I used what could be viewed as disrespectful funny face things.

This was due to total frustration on my part at being unable to get a direct answer to my question on giving Peace a chance and the fact that I am not used to being called a liar.

However, This DOES NOT excuse my wrong doings and my last post here will be to declare so.

Again, My sincere apologies to you and anybody else who may have felt excluded by my inane rantings, guess I care too much.

Don't worry, I get called worse by lesser and greater all the time. Something about asking for facts that sends some over the edge of politeness.

Iseek:

Well it would set me on edge too. Who called you that anyhow? I certainly did not but did say that to continue to say that the US had armed Iraq to the teeth is a lie as Iraq had already been armed to the teeth with a trillion or so in adjusted dollars by China, Russia, France, Arab countries, Eastern Europe and a host of other nations and financed by the likes of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait among others well prior to the US giving them intel and non military helicopters.

Not necessary. As I said it offends me not as so many people do that out of frustration when they have little else to offer. This is an internet discussion board, not to be mistaken for a life but thanks anyways for the scincerity.

So you prefer a milt toast thread? With everyone nodding to the OP?

Yes, I see these exactly as debate threads. Because to say they are not. Means you agree with the OP from the beginning and there is little reason to post.

Good debate is about a taking a passionate position and defending it.
I totally agree that when the post turn to personal attacks, then it has gone to far. That happens way to much here. Sadly, I have also have also done some.

I try to reread all the post I place here. Seeking to see if a personal attack has been made. When I see one, I delete or rewrite it.

But we discuss heated issues here. Ones with long histories and hardened positions. Were only occassionaly a blast of dynamite gets any movement or agreement. We discuss the day's horrors here. The world seems to be only to full of this. Giving release to those have to place it into words.

We learn here. Of how others around the world, that live in a vastly different culture or society think about a issue or situation. Sometimes learning is painful to our preconceptions.

When it gets bitter here. I keep a bag of chocolate on the desk and take a bite to sweeten things up. I go thru a bag about every day. My dental bill has risen dramatically since posting at CS.))

But I for one, would not want not want to change the passion of debate that we have here. Freedom of expression means a messy floor of views and opinions. We just need to be careful about which ones we trip on and stumble into......and we need to be careful about the personal attacks. They are out of bounds in my opinion.

Hi TTom,

Yes, I read the threads to learn.. I have gotten myself off my butty and flown to Europe to meet CSers and had a chance to meet 26 people, all of whom had their own stories, and shared the best of their country with me.. Yes, learning and appreciating others for their cultural differences is very good, also chatting about different topics is good, because you are quite right, you get an insight to how others view current affairs...
I never said not to... I just said that its well confusing with the personal slurs.

Liken what I see if you will to.... watching an interesting movie, and have add breaks every five minutes, you sorta lose the gist of it all...and then in the end, its just point scoring, the gist of the story is lost...

and the main characters change to just a few, and its almost impossible to gleen any interesting information from the story...

I do believe that everyone has a story side for each topic, I dont want Milk and Honey, I am OK with the story being told in its content, good or bad.. and with its historical origins...

Can you please understand that others may like to perhaps, either join in, or just read... but its a story we are reading, not a pleasant one in this occasion, but nevertheless, keep the thread of the story together... and that cannot happen with silly interjections of personal attacks...

The words dont have to be rough, the words need not be even correct, opinions and thoughts are wonderful...

BTW, I have been here for a very long time, so I sorta can tell what works and what doesn't... and clearly, the way the Superpower thread went, was very sad... Lets see if this thread can tell its story a little better.... Don't you think??

Cheers.

Hi Boban, Howz you hun... wave

How exactly are they supposed to prevent it... I dont know hun, I really dont... I spent a great part of tonight reading Robert Fisk and his articles... and his videos..

and being that the man is more than knowledgeable, having eye witnessed and reported in this region for years.. I can truly say, I'd need to deeply think on it.
Yes, people are capable of allsorts even without guns... but in this case, there are far tooo many guns... I read in an article tonight, that another shipment of guns arrived last weekend... so clearly, they need a gun by their sides as much as we need a mobile phone stuck to our ears... damn... what is this world coming to..

and re the last question... Why does the West etc...

Because of various issues... the main one, we Westerners want to be seen as caring, compassionate folk, and if our govt does not do anything, then they lose our votes... so if there is horror stories on our TV and articles on the net... the pollies assume that their countrymen will read and see these articles and be concerned... because we dont live and understand such awful things...
(we only understand being penalised by being continually taxed) but not slaughtered... and in return, our pollies ( I think) start worrying that if they do nothing... and turn a blind eye, they wont be well regarded by their countrymen, and they just might lose points in the next election... so they do something...
and in this case... Australia threw out the two senior Syrian diplomats and their families... and in line, so did other countries..

makes you wonder how long they all spend working it out on the phone and conference calls... all very hush hush... top top stuff... lol

But clearly, as you can see, I am giving you a silly answer, that probably has a hint of truth in it...

The real answer is.... of course, if you just sit quietly in the background... no one is going to pay attention to you... and leaders know this... so of course to upkeep their standing in the 'world ranks' they need to show some strength... even if its just verbal dribble.... and seen to be doing something... at the very least... paying attention to what their own rating is primarily, and perhaps at the very least,.. actually paying attention to that which is occurring.

Sending Kofi in to present some sort of peace ... 48 hrs minimum he appears to have got... is at least showing support, to a very small degree.

But while the UN countries cannot agree... naught will be done. no point having a real showdown is there...
Besides that..

From what I can see, there is so many factions of small army bits and pieces going on in Syria, and all belonging to different .. religions, are they called religions... dunno, tribes.. anyway, you know what I mean... and those factions have not walked the same path for years... so what hope does anyone have until they make peace and settle themselves within themselves..

So to answer your question honestly... I dont know... but would be pleased to hear your views.... which apart from

"Do nothing" you could explain your story of why you think that... (without recriminations here..)

Cheers Bobans..
