This past week I experienced the most difficult time of my life. I have been battling depression for almost 12 years, with little to no success. I have also begun the downward spiral of alcoholism. Apparently I reached my breaking point, because I went on a bender and woke up in the psychiatric ward on observation. Now I'm back home, and I'm wondering if maybe I should've stayed! Anyone else ever been there?

I having been battling it for 23 years and winning. I had an Indian female friend from Osawatami Psyche ward in Kansas. I got my 23 year chip from AA and my 23 key tag from NA two days ago. Hang in there it can get better even if it gets bitter to start with.

Maggs,
depression can be a killer. Mix depression with alcohol and you're a disater waiting to happen.

By wondering if you should have stayed longer answers your own question.

However now that you are home you need to focus on getting better.

Focus focus focus

hug

My prayers are with you..Been there and done that. Every case is unique though. Had depression most of my life (didn't know then that it was the drinking that made it worse and worse) Went into re-hab 14 years ago...when i stopped drinking is when the depression kicked in. went to the ward a few times. the alcohol was not in me anymore to help me deal with life..that's when the panic attacks started coming. it was a long tough road...but worth it every step of the way..
went to meetings 3 times a day(only way to survive),got a sponsor, went to counseling, needed the meds the first 4 years
after 4 years of recovery, learned to deal with the panic attacks, got off of the meds, worked on myself, kept going to meetings at least 3 times a week, sponsored others, and learned to like who i was.
I am sorry you are going through this...But till you hit that breaking point, it only gets worse..It has to be up to you...I know the pain you are in...I remember it very well..It don't have to be like thathug
