"A Christian girl with Down’s Syndrome has been arrested on blasphemy charges in Pakistan, accused of burning pages inscribed with verses from the Koran, police and activists said on Sunday.

Police arrested Rimsha, who is recognized by a single name, on Thursday after she was reported holding in public burnt pages which had Islamic text and Koranic verses on them, a police official told AFP.

A conviction for blasphemy is punishable by death in Pakistan.

The girl’s alleged behaviour sparked Muslim anger in Mehrabad, an area of the capital where she lives with her parents and where up to 800 Christians reside. Christians there were forced to leave amid mounting fury."

How does one reply to the post.

I could post about ignorance but that could be taken by some as me saying all Pakistani's are ignorant, which as we know is not the case.

From what I've seen on this site and in life, I can't say I agree with you.

Hopefully the outcome for the little girl comes out good. Clearly she does not really know what is happening to her. It is one thing to punish someone who has intent, I do not think that is warranted here.

I agree, nor do I think she knew what she was doing and that she could be sentenced to death for it.

Perhaps they should put the money they get in aid from other countries to better use.
You know what, and I know you'll have some lame excuse for this, but from what I've seen, you waste no time insulting me on other threads, so why are you even on this one?

I agree, the money they get in aid does appear to get wasted and unappreciated from what I've read on other threads lately.

Lame excuse, nope, an apology if you believe I've insulted you wine

I am neither a pakistani nor a muslim - but I can say that I have been studying pakistan for last six months through various online data. A whole generation of people were forced to undergo islamization in 1980s when the Military took over. That changed the whole structure there.

After all education plays a huge part in what we turn out to be. However, most pakistanis youll come are generally very tolerant. Most of these incidents that are reported are from rural areas which is further deprived of any modern education....there lies the challenge.

Has any of you people thought of this...... "What if the world was full of non believers atheist" It would be a different world than we have today I think a more independant and free thinking clear headed and loving world we could live in there would be no reason to argue or fight

My wish would be able to see the world at peace

But alas while there is religon with that comes greed , hate lack of womens rights in the muslim world never gunna happen & so on

The litmus test of a religion is how it values a single human being and his/her mistakes.
Burning "holy" scriptures is crazy, like burning joss paper in Asia.

Happygolucky4u: From what I read it is common in Pakistan to shun ones born different than others. They are not valued and often looked upon as a disgrace to the family. Maybe some of our Pakistan friends on here would like to comment I also read the site you posted from time to time.

Yes, that could be interesting.

I will not blame the religion but the stupid people. Religion is made for weak people who cannot face reality and run to an imaginary invisible man up in the sky to solve their problems wheather they are desease or want to buy a house instead of sit down and thing what is the problem and find the solution.

I am not a particularly religious person, but I have to say that, at least in the States, much of our everyday morals and values are derived from Christianity. And just this week there was a study released of some 100,000 voters in the red and blue states. Those states with strong Christian numbers are found to be far more charitable than those without.

I also think that it's worth noting that all of our religions here have peacefully and respectfully co-existed (at least in my lifetime), with very little problems until the Muslims extremists came along (that does not include the peaceful, more moderate Muslims). I think the problem there is not OUR lack of tolerance, but rather THEIR lack of tolerance. To Muslim extremists, there is no tolerance for anything or anyone other than themselves.

How do you work with that?
