Jillll: I don't think it's sad at all. Yes, anyone can pop out out a kid but it takes a real parent to love and nurture them, and to impart your values and beliefs. I think that is a far more important legacy than a poem or magazine article.

I'd like think that something I've designed & built will be keeping the lights on and heating homes in 100 years time. Although not very likely given the pace of change, by then my efforts would be a mere shell at most.

I do stained glass that is weird and unique. I gave my relatives a bunch. When we're all dead, the younger generations in the family will hoard all the glass. That will be the thing they keep. I make fairy dolls too. They're super cool but they might rot or discolor or fall apart. The stained glass will last a lot longer. The stained glass could get passed down over centuries, hoarded in people's dresser drawers wrapped in washcloths, gathering dust in China Cabinets.
