It's a little more complicated than that, Moose. Your answer, while quite sensible, reflects a belief system in which Jesus and God are one and the same. Debate about exactly that was what ultimately drove the split between the Orthodox church and the Catholic church (from which latter all western Protestant denominations are derived).
On the other (Arian) hand, if God and Jesus are NOT the same, then nothing says that while Jesus was certainly male, God might not be his mother?
(And before everyone starts blasting me: I am well aware that neither the Orthodox church nor Arius & his followers espoused such a belief. I am just pointing out that, hey, thinking outside the box can help you understand other's viewpoints.)

IMO, the reason why there are so many religions is because it was all very simple, one religion, but then we, because of our human nature, complicated everything with questions such as is God really a male?
Lets make man made rules and make Sunday the sabbath instead of Saturday, lets make another breakaway rule where it's ok to get divorced.
Lets celebrate the arrival of santa on Dec. 25th instead of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Lets celebrate a rabbit with a chocolate egg during Easter when our Lord sacrificed himself on the cross to safe our souls.
Were all doomed if you ask me, maybe Jesus will forgive us :)

Considering there are so (sooooo) many misogynist passages in the bible...god sounds as a male...otherwise doesnt make sense (doesnt make sense in everyway but,ah well )
