tomcatwarne: That sounds more like it, The Finnish system is the same, marriage is the passport to citizenship, within and without the EEC. There may be exceptions that I am not aware of.

Of course the state can't dictate such a thing. They can investigate you if they have good reason to believe that the marriage is a scam. They go around and interview neighbors, do surprise visits, etc., but in the end, the state has the burden of proof and as crazy as it sounds, in most cases the state cannot prove it conclusively.

I don't know the rules in countries other than germany and the U.S., but in terms of exceptions, there is always the marriage to a resident, rather than a citizen. That extends the waiting period before you can divorce and still maintain independent residency status. In Germany, one way to get in without marriage is to simply get a citizen pregnant, believe it or not. One can then apply under the family reunion act. You know how it is.. where there are rules, there are loopholes, but they've gotten very good at closing them through other instances (i.e. family court).

At the same time, they lowered the entrance standards for highly qualified technical people, physicians and investors/businesspeople.

I'd never want to live in USA,and dont think that US life is so exiting or comfortable,but also dont blame those who r from poor undemocratic countries trying to get a better life.i m sure u would do the same if u have lived Nigeria .

In my opinion, life is a lot more comfortable in the U.S. than in western Europe. Fewer rules, less bureaucracy, less fees to pay, bigger houses/apartments, less taxes, etc. etc. Depends where in the U.S. you live, of course.

I would never recommend for an older person to come here, BUT for a young person who wants to work hard, you have more opportunities to become successful and earn a good living in the U.S. than in Germany, for example.

My experience has been the same. I have always believed I was fortunate to have been born in the U.S., but after living here in Western Europe over the past couple years, I have never been more in awe than now(even though it's on a downhill slide... and not sure it will change - but it

Well, my post didn't turn out right, and it posted while I was still typing... Anyway, we're for the most part pretty spoiled in the U.S., and I no longer take for granted anything I may have in the past.

By the way, I DO love living here in Wales!!

Yes, Americans who never lived outside the US don't even realize how spoiled they are. That is the sad part about it all. You know the old saying: Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. I think we've taken things a bit too far and we're heading for the slaughterhouse, to be honest.

"...a ticket to a great new life in the USA"

Wow...what great life is there in the US? Is there free health insurance? Or maybe free housing? Oh yes, maybe the state will pay all the bills?

I gotta get me that great ticket lol ('applause');

Aspenn: I've been on this site only 2 weeks, and it's suprising how many men overseas have hit on me with the idea that they can pull me into a whirlwind online romance and have a ticket to a great new life in the USA, asap. Over and over again I explain how the process really works. After I do that, they vanish.

I decided to post for everyone how the process of getting into the USA through marriage actually works! US immigration will NOT consider an appilcation if the couple hasn't known each other at least one full year. The couple must produce a substantial amount of evidence that the romance is very much real. Proof of much daily contact, gifts, letters, phone calls. In addition, they require that the couple meet overseas in person to spend time together. Immigration requires copies of travel itenerary, and photos of the couple together. If the couple can produce all of this, then both are required to have interviews at the embassies in their countries. The people who conduct these interviews are well trained to spot a fake easily. if both people aren't genuinly in love and dedicated to each other, immigration will know it.

Yes, there was a time when a person could get into the USA by way of a quick marriage to an American, but those days are long gone and fakes no longer slip through.
This should dicourage the toy boys herelaugh
