lifeisadream: I have been to Iceland, such a beautiful country and it is very safe to travel around.

However, to debate which ones are the

"The world's friendliest countries" is non-sense.

BecauseFirst: I will not visit each and one country of the world.

Second: Relationships are a 2 way street.

Third: I could be biased towards my own country....

Forth: Knowing the language helps to communicate which btw Islenska is rather difficult to understand.

Most all Icelanders speak decent english.
But yes, icelandic is a bit difficult

Adalstef: Thats true, the Vikings raided mostly Ireland and England and took the most beautiful women. The country was isolated for many centuries so they have remained pretty pure.

Mmmh...and they are the most friendly of the world? Interesting grin

Remained pretty pure...that sounds like some 1930's 1940's racial fantasy.
I would find its isolation more of a possible threat with a much higher risk of inbreeding.

By pure I mean they haven´t changed much- they are still as beautiful as those who came here first

I had a look at this report... and as usual the Daily Mail can't be trusted. (in printed form it's considered a tabloid rag )

Here's what i found out:

It is important to note that WEF's ranking of friendliness towards foreigners does not actually take into account the opinions of any foreigners. The rankings are based on an Executive Opinion Survey distributed to business leaders in 140 countries, who are asked to rank their own countries on such topics as infrastructure, environmental sustainability, and economic policy.

IN otherwords, Mr. Iceland, it's all a load of bollix. laugh

Surprised that China is not among the bottom ten. haha. This thread reminds me a comment on the same-old routine of The Economist, which made me laugh today: "TE, Daily Euro bash, daily China bash, bankers are Gods, and financial racketeers are Gods." lol. Oh, beside the point already, ha.

Even if Icelandic is suppose to belong to the same group of languages as Swedish, I don't understand Icelandic! Sorry about that Adalstef. I've no problems understanding Norwegian and Danish, but Icelandic is so different.

Actually its Swedish thats different, not icelandic.
Swedish has changed while icelandic has stayed more or less the same since when it was common language in scandinavia and most northern europe.

Adalstef: Uruguay rates, on the scale 1-100, in ca 20, where 1 is good and 100 is bad.
So its rather friendly, friendlier then USA and similar to Norway.
You rate much friendlier then Argentina but not as much as Brazil.
You can see it on the map if you click the link in the first post

TKS, I finally got my answer...and, yes, it is a very Friendly Country!dancing

Not quite!

Even many gas stations (along the ring road 2009) did not have any of their fuel dispensers in English!!!

uh oh

What a nightmare but other than that it was a wonderful experience to be a visitor in Iceland.

We are taught to read and listened to other Scandinavian languages in school, so we can communicate with our neighbors! In northern Sweden we understand Norwegian better than Danish. It’s the opposite in south Sweden. We don’t speak Danish here! I understand Finnish, since I speak it!wink In Finland they learn Swedish as their second language.
If your country would have been closer to us, we’d probably understand Icelandic better too! laugh

Hejja Island!

A lot.. depends on the traveler's charisma, if you're nice and smart you will not have problems, at last trying to avoid places pervaded by the religious fanaticism or special dictatorships
