This is the power source, from NASA:
Voyager 1 has three radioisotope thermoelectric generators (RTGs) mounted on a boom. Each MHW-RTG contains 24 pressed plutonium-238 oxide spheres. The RTGs generated about 470 watts of electric power at the time of launch, with the remainder being dissipated as waste heat. The power output of the RTGs does decline over time (halving every 87.7 yrs), but the RTGs of Voyager 1 will continue to support some of its operations until around 2025.

apparently, as it left the solar system, NASA heard a ghostly wail at human speech frequencies, Though it was 17 hours before it reached earth as this is the time it takes a signal to reach us from the probe.

You are welcome, BTW, goto NASA.GOV and sign up for the Spot the International Space Station. It is a great object to see in the night sky. I got to see it with the space shuttle after it was ready to come back home.

Not the problem you think it is. It's still a good 5 years before the last iPad flickers out here on Earth.
