It's not the booze that is making you depressed. It may be a symptom but not the reason you are..

If you are talking about feeling crap after a good session, simply drink fluids other than booze aswell. It's a good idea to keep a bottle or glass or water (fruit juice) close to your bed. And drink water before you sleep. Foward planning and responsible drinking is the key.

yep and it only gets worse if you keep drinking..time to knock it on the head before it gets out of control..if you're having depressive episodes after a binge its a sign you've a drink problem..maybe not alcoholic but not far off itireland

Depends on what you mean by over doing it, if you mean you had a bit of a blow out, the kind you have every once in a while, cos that kinda thing happens, then it is nothing to worry about, you will recover, if however by over doing it you mean you have been on the absolute piss every weekend for the last 6 months....then yes....you will get very down and it is probably a good idea to give it a rest for a while.

Is that a professional opinion?

Alcohol is a mood altering drug, fact, taken in access it can lead to all kinds of problems, including feeling depressed the day after a heavy session.

Yes, I like a drink, sometimes more than one :) but moderation is the key.

I experienced it in my late teens to mid twenties when my social life was in full flow and I was drinking in excess every weekend. It hit me on a Sunday and stayed with me all day, at first I used to think it was the prospect of facing work on a Monday but as I got older, I realised it was how my alchol consumption was affecting me. I don't drink as much these days for that reason but that's not to say I don't enjoy a drink anymore, for me it was just a matter of finding a balance. Guess it doesn't effect everyone like that though

Isn't the problem though that it's the user that much conduct the moderation? That's a bit of a tricky one. If you are a moderate drinker you don't need moderation and if you need moderation you're not likely to listen to yourself now are you?laugh

Alcohol exaggerates the mood which you are in whilst drinking, so if you are feeling depressed and start drinking then it will only make matters worse, for me its the following day or 2 after a good night out that has me feeling blue but it doesn't last beyond those couple of days.

Let's call it a very well educated guess.

The same can be said for coffee. Next Q...

Glatlol: Yes, I like a drink, sometimes more than one :) but moderation is the key.

Personally, sometimes I go out with the intention of getting very pissed...

What is your point?

So you are only guessing about the OP and depression, not a subject to "guess" about IMO.

Coffee??? so what, thats not the subject of the thread.

Your last point doesnt surprise me at all.

Basically she is hung over or whatever she feels guilty about surfaces when she's pissed. Simple as.

And I'm giving an educated guess. Do you want split hairs???

Personally I like mine cowboy style (black, no sugar). You said booze alters your mind. I simply said the same argument about mind altering drugs could be made with coffee.

Glatlol: Your last point doesnt surprise me at all.

Let's call it a very mis-spent childhood and leave it at that.

mjpd67: dont dispute that fact where the younger generation and drink are mentioned ,but its like my life or your life there are 2 paths in life a wrong one and a right one i know which path to do my best to stay on ,i see them out over the weekends around town here and sadly dont see anybody holding a gun to their heads to drink ,and the culture of drinking to excess is not just rife in this country either, look at england ,spain any holiday hot spot you see pissed up brits and irish and every nationality ,think its a world wide epidemic
