Obstinance_Works: I'd have to say that the majority of people are groupthinkers or contrarians(non-conformists). They'll either think with the group or deliberately think against the group. Neither of which makes them individual.

The leader of the group is the most individual. And the pro of individuality is the chance for social prowess and the con is the risk of social ostracisation: If you want to be original in this life then you need to be great otherwise you will become hated by the sycophantic mass.

A non-conformist is deliberately so, but a conformist isn't deliberately so? Why do you choose these these attributions?

A non-conformist may deliberately non-conform, or may deliberately gather information and make a decision based upon his, or her knowledge and skills at the time, including his. or her own value system.

So at times, each of us may be group thinkers, or non-conformists and that's possibly true for the majority.

What is individual about being one of many leaders? What is individual about aiming to gain social prowess, or avoiding being ostracised?

What is individual about avoiding social prowess, or seeking isolation?

I'd say its the specific combination of our attributes and experiences which make us individual. Its just that some people struggle to accept the fluidity of that notion and struggle with the concept that our extraordinariness makes us somewhat ordinary.

Rather than striving for greatness amongst many, individuality is the acceptance that we're all as special as everyone else. To seek greatness amongst many is to live with the misery of never feeling good enough. That's a bit of a sorry state to be in, needing other's validation for your own existence.

No problem, You suffer from Human personality syndrome (HPS)

Do you know what is HPS?

Human personality syndrome, also known as HPS, is a disorder affecting a significant but fortunately rapidly increasing proportion of humankind, as well as certain non-humans. It is defined as "the ability to be sensitive, compassionate, sarcastic, cynical, etc. or otherwise demonstrate any individuality whatsoever", and is known to be a serious mental condition. Doctors, government and the media are working around the clock to inform people about and eventually eradicate this disorder.

Diagnosis
If you fit any of those criteria, you may actually have a human personality. Three diagnosis criteria must be met for a person to be diagnosed with HPS. These are the following:

Lack of hallucinations. Example: not seeing any pink elephants.
Visible emotions about one's surroundings. Example: appreciating any form of art.
Attentiveness. Examples include: understanding Shakespeare.
Critical thinking. Examples include: not reading this article.
Social/occupational success. Interpersonal relations, work, and self-care are extinct.

As can be seen, diagnosis of HPS can be done very quickly. However, a psychologist must be careful not to misdiagnose the condition as "intelligence" or "life", which have both been accepted as no longer existing in humans.

Treatment

Media
Television is generally accepted as the best way to cure a brain of human personality disorder. Psychiatrists will typically prescribe at least four hours of entertainment gossip and/or reality television per day..

However, alternative treatments under the media category are undergoing tests. For example, the Internet is seen as a promising source of medication, as anti-HPS medication is available on a 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week basis on such websites as YouTube..
Alternatives

Joining a cult is often prescribed in place of the above methods. While this is often criticized for being an over-reaction, psychiatrists claim that the patients that have undergone cult brainwashing have afterwards claimed to have "attained nirvana" and "been enlightened." Unfortunately, these results have often depressed psychiatrists themselves enough to join cults themselves, watering flowers side by side with their patients.

rolling on the floor laughing thumbs up Hi Bogart, thanks for making my evening!

Sunny143: I just don't care what people talk or think about me,I purely rely on my own decisions and follow my heart.I mostly make friends but I do have a good number of backbiters in my life. So,what are the pros and cons of being Individualist.

Hi Sunny

I'm not sure whether my perception on the issue is correct or not, but here it is.

People are a mirror image of how others see them; i.e. we shape our character based on our understanding of how others perceive us. The younger we are and the more important the other persons are in our lives, the greater the influence they have on how we see ourselves. For instance, if a father looks down to his daughter letting her know in every possible way that he believes she is stupid, ugly, no good, etc. the girl will grow up seen her self as her father sees her, and this mirror image may follow this girl her hole life. On the other hand, if a person grows in a supportive house, where the parents teach their children self- respect/reliance/confidence, independence, etc. it is more probable that the person will gradually through age and experience, escape this mirror image effect and rely more on his/her own perception of self. I don't know if it is possible to escape completely from this tendency though. For instance, if I have one perception of myself but I see in the eyes of a group of people who are close to me and important in my life that my perception is not so correct, personally I would be shaken and try to see myself through their eyes in order to conclude who is right or wrong, and re-evaluate my perception.

Perhaps there are people out there who know themselves completely. I'm still in the learning process, searching myself. And often I need to sit down and analyze/criticize my thoughts and actions. So there is no individualism for me in its absolute sense. I'm a part of a family and a society, and at some extend, I'm influenced by them, irrespectively of the fact that at the end of the day, the decisions I make for my life are my own.

I hope I make sense! dunno

"The goal of individuation is not narcissistic self-absorption, as some might believe, but rather the manifestation of the larger purposes of nature through the incarnation of the individual.
The task of individuation then is wholeness, not goodness, not purity, not happiness. And wholeness includes the descent which the psyche frequently imposes upon the unwilling ego."

Many people go through life experiencing the wide variety of positive
and negative experiences and situations. Most people from time to time
think about their "perfect world." When asked, these same people
describe their "perfect world" differently but mainly it fits the same
criteria, being fundamentally based upon energies, feelings, and
attitudes of love, peace, and joy. Why does everybody's "perfect
world" contain the same basic blueprint and structure? Coincidence? I
beg to differ.

Going back to talking about the envisioned thoughts of our "perfect
worlds", there is one more quality that exists. That is NO EGO. By
EGO, I am talking about the part of you that since birth has been
trained to understand division, separatism, non unity and equality,
and most of all, understanding the need to be judgmental. This doesn't
exist in our "perfect worlds." That makes the question "Why?" seem
more interesting! So let's delve into understanding that.

Are we all connected? Is our consciousness connected to one another?
Of course the answers to those two are emphatically YES. Most people
these days, whether spiritual or not, can comprehend that concept once
pondered. See, most people don't like these qualities: division,
separatism, judgmental, fear, non unity and equality. The truth is
etched into our RNA/DNA strands and our subconscious mind. These
qualities are not in our "perfect world" because we know that is how
life is supposed to be. Every single one of us knows and understands that.

Of course though, our "perfect worlds" are not the ones we live in
now. But that doesn't matter right now because within our thought
patterns of what life is supposed to be about, we all fully know,
comprehend, and understand the Universal Truths of Life in Creation
and the significance of it.

"Why are you telling us this?" It's simple. By telling people things,
you start to spark their awareness from within. As you can see by the
title of this message, I am laying the groundwork for a more complete
understanding. "Living without the EGO" is more than something we
should do; it is something we NEED to do, and everybody knows that. I
go back to the thought of our perfect worlds. Ponder that for a while
and you shall better understand what I am talking about.
