equiya: Well, I am not talking about HOW he did what he did but WHAT he did. Either way, he hurt her feelings. and some people don't like phoning. maybe he was too embarassed by his own action to talk to her.
Kaybee50: What you say is true. But, a phone call instead of a text message would've made a bit of difference. It would've shown he was a man with backbone.
I agree...a phone call and perhaps a logical reason for cancelling out of a date that the OP went to a bit of trouble to set up would be in order. A little respect goes a long way regardless of what his reasons were to cancel.
If the guy had your phone number then the appropiate method for him to have done was to have had the courtesy to call you not text you. To me texting is the chickens way out.

Indeed. And as I mentioned previously, the indicators were in place before they even got to this point.

equiya: but he did not stand her up, he CANCELLED the date so she knew he was not coming. being stood up would mean agreeing to come to the date, not showing up at all and not saying anything before.

well young people like texting. i don't even know how to do it and i don't have a cell phone. the OP is 30 yrs old, who knows how old the potential date is

Us old people like texting as well. Short, little, flirty doodads. But before meeting a complete stranger for a date, some phone convos are in order to get a feel for this person, no matter the age.

Regardless of the man's age doesn't mean that a man still can't have manners.

My "date" was 48. But its indeed a matter of manners, not age. He clearly wasn't bothered.
Anyway, good to read all your opinions and tips on here...

Reading through the posts the date had been arranged a week prior,in my opinion if this guy had any doubts about the date then he surely would have had these vibes earlier,to text 3 hours before the date i think is out of order,he must have known this lady would have made arrangements in advance,,its a long drive etc..he knew it was a long drive before agreeing to the date did he not.....if the boot was on the other foot i reckon the guy would have plenty to moan about....i.m.o......

My point exactly.
