Should the posts you make on FB and other social networks get you terminated from your employment?
OR
Do you consider what you post to be freedom of speech and should not affect your employment?

I think sometimes people use the "freedom of speech" line to be obnoxious, spread hate, discriminate or hurt others............everything we spread or share on the social media is looked upon as a reflection of our true nature.

hmmm If what I say affects my employer in a negative aspect then yes I feel they have the right to terminate. Has nothing to do with freedom speech. I still have the freedom of speech. Some jobs do not outline this for their employees to understand. I am under a contractual obligation not to say much about my employer. It is for security purposes as well as for protecting my employers asset. I work for one of the strictest corporations there is to work for. And they do fire or terminate which ever phrase you prefer when you do not stick to your contract. Once a year they run a credit check on me and a back ground check. Some would call that an invasion of privacy. But you see I look at it this way....it is their home so to speak and when you enter my home it is my rules or out the door you go. I work for a business, we aren't there to make friends. That is just how I feel about it. Maybe it because it is outlined so well when you are hired that I don't feel as if it is a threat. Just part of the job. dunno

When it is outlined in the employer/employee contract that makes it easier to comply.

I recently read somewhere that a teacher was fired for posting pictures of herself as a bikini model. Is that terms for termination?dunno

Of course America is so different from Europe in many ways. I don't doubt Americam employers could terminate for many reasons which do not apply in Europe. Europeans are so much freer in this respect.

Oof, this is one I've debated with myself more than once. It's such a touchy subject. As an employer, I've always believed that people are entitled to their privacy outside of work hours but if a post in any way affected the business, I'd want to know about it.

...still in two minds...confused
