He needs to get a pair of big boy pants. It's not as if he's never been offensive or dismissive in his posts. As I asked him in his thread, can he spell "hypocrite"?

Please Mr whining baby, don't report me for laughing at you rolling on the floor laughing

Sorry, Chris cheers handshake

I've recognised a lot of them, and my partner knows of some as well. The rest, I've just tried to integrate into my daily life somehow.

Once again, apologies for the hijack.

I just remember I have to reply to you regarding the financial status and your nice new shiny museum.
We'd have to assume that the Marbles hadn't been pilfered by a private collector and that they'd been left where they originally were, and they were in a condition to be moved.
I personally don't think they'd have stayed where they were once it was common knowledge of what was actually there.

Should they be handed back? I dont' know. The legality of the handing over documents seems to be the issue, and unless that can be worked out, it's never going to happen.

A short story of the sculpturs (i don't like the word marbles, they might be made of marble, but are sculptures ). What you see in the British Museum they were ripped of the Parthenon, they transported to 3 ships (if not mistaken)and one ship captised and sank, about 80 miles from Athens. The rest arrived in Scotland to decorate Elgin house.- Then Elgin change his mind and he tried to sell the sculptures in private, and not finding any byers, they finished up be bought by UK goverment.-cheers cheers cheers

So technically, the UK government bought them under faith they were legally owned. I would assume that some form of paperwork was shown at the time, as we're not talking about a second hand car to be used as parts.
From that, the UK government legally owns them. The Greek government could plead for them to be handed back, but it would have to be at terms both agree on. It seems they can't agree on any terms.

If they hadn't bought them, they could have just been scrapped or broken into parts and nobody would ever be able to enjoy the beauty of them.

Nobody is saying the British Museum hasn't done a good job preserving them. But after 25 years ago, since Greece officially pleaded for their return, the voices of reason, within the UK,for their return, gets more louder every day.- If and when, the 2 governments reach an future amicable agreement, time will tell.-cheers

The fact remains, if it had not been for the British and the British museum looking after these relics, you country would have sold or destroyed them long ago, to the detriment of the world, be grateful that they have been preserved and are viewable to anyone.
Maybe when your country is stable, with a financially sound government, they is a chance they will be lent to your museum, but they will always belong to the UK.

The "Proof" is all over Greece and the Greek Islands, where so much of your ancient history has been destroyed, used in building peasants homes, sold to anyone who offered a few coins, I guess you haven't visited Rhodes recently and seen what your "museums" have done to Roman artefacts, poorly kept and so now decayed beyond recognition.

The proof you ask for is right in front of your eyes Chris, but you are blinded by your insular and short sighted views.

Greece is one of the most wonderful counties in Europe, but sadly few who live there have done anything to maintain it or secure this amazing historic past for their future generations, thankfully, other counties valued the Greek history and so, much was rescued and is still available for the world to see and understand.

Robin Symes, ring a bell??? Brit archaeologigal dealer, narrow escaped arrest, for illegal possession of Greek artifacts,in one of the Greek island, with his now murdered Greek partner Michailidis.-What you expect,if you have those illegal dealers roaming the Greek country side, offering huge amount of money, for priceless antiquities. In the other hand we have the collectors, who they don't ask,if the artifact is legal for sale or not. By the way,how many archaeological museums you have in UK,in Greece nearly every big town and one.Even in this small island called IOS there is one.- Everywhere someone digs in Greece, to build a house, roads, etc, finds ancient artifacts, unlikely in the UK.-grin grin grin doh doh doh

Now you're just showing your ignorance Chris, the UK is hardly a child historically speaking, Stone henge is more than 6000 years old at the latest estimate and almost intact, Bath city pre-dates the Roman era and yet we can still use the facilities the Romans built,I cannot think of a town or city in the UK that does NOT have a museum and yes, we also dig up ancient relics from pre-Anglo-Saxon to medieval times and newer, so don't think Greece has the monopoly of ancient culture, architecture or history, however wonderful your history is, there are other countries with older and possibly more colourful histories than yours. Like I said, stop being narrow minded and open your eyes to the whole world.

With this comment and attitude, you have shown the world your total ignorance to the worlds historic antiquity and exactly why the Elgin marbles should remain in the UK, there is nothing more to be said!!!
