Great thread Sophie wave

I have few fears, but I do have vertigo which has seen me having panic attacks when placed in situations where I have had no choice but to go forward blues

This seems to have reduced the vertigo somewhat, perhaps it's psychological to a certain extent, and I've realized over the past few years that forced confrontation seems to have helped a little.

Yes I can understand, thank you, sweeping on psycho is what it is, but can I move it out? I really want to do this. Beautiful you went forward!

Sophie I think fear of flying could be something that may require professional help ..

Have you flown in large aircraft confused

I have no problem with that but was extremely anxious when faced unexpectedly with an 8 seater plane flight, had to do it once again but given the choice, probably would have declined sad flower

I could not do hot-air ballooning or helicopters either.

I'm not crazy about flying. Had to go to California a few years ago, flying was the only option blues... Having a choice ? I'll drive two days, before spending a few hours on a plane. motorcycle

I think fears can be faced to a certain extent, head on, if we know they will be over with very quickly, before our brains kick into protection mode conversing

This is a poem I learned as a young boy of about 10 years old. Whenever I was facing a scary situation I would literally recite this poem to myself and plunge forward. I'm sorry there is no female equivalent to it that I know of, but I guess you could replace the word "Man" with "Woman" and it may work.

Do you fear the force of the wind,
The slash of the rain?
Go face them and fight them,
Be savage again.
Go hungry and cold like the wolf,
Go wade like the crane:
The palms of your hands will thicken,
The skin of your cheek will tan,
You'll grow ragged and weary and swarthy,
But you'll walk like a man!

The first time I flew was in an old DC3 2 engine prop plane over water from FL to Grand Bahama Is. I was a little nervous so I sat as close to the left engine as possible so I could keep an eye on it just in case. Being a technically oriented person I was fascinated by how the engine rotated slightly on its mounts in reaction to the torque of the prop.
Another time I had to take a short hop from a big airport to a small regional airport in Texas. The plane was tiny maybe 20 seats. There was no door to the cabin and I could see the pilots hands and feet. We ran into a violent thunder storm and we were tossed around like a pie plate. I watched the pilot working the pedals and steering wheel like a race driver and I said to myself this guy really is one with the plane and I was totally relaxed in the knowledge that he was in total control and could handle whatever that storm threw at him. If I couldn't see him I think I may have been petrified.

If your friend is a crop duster he's probably a better pilot than those who fly big jet airliners and I would have zero fear of flying with him. Those guys can probably land a plane on the roof of a moving car if they had to.

I love flying - of course my father was a Royal Canadian jet pilot.

I often face my fears in the ocean - it is so vast and unknown with large creatures that can sting, or take a bit out of me. So I just suck up the fear and do it anyway.

I hated flying as well, white knuckling the whole way. Then I spent some time with a few pilots who got me into the cockpit and explained all the instruments. What a difference it made. Go for it, Sophia!! thumbs up

It's a rational one - lucky you are at sea level most times.
