GUZMAN1: Legal immigrants pass hygienical controls. Illegals don't.

The thread is about diseases. Developed countries try to prevent this, and the rest don't do it always.

I could agree that the immigration policy works wrongly, but there must be measures against epidemics and diseases which doesn't exist in the destination countries.

Yes Guzman this thread is about diseases –apparently-.

Tell me that chicken pox can be transmitted only by illegal immigrants.
(For the record I do not want anyone to get infected no matter their nationality).

What about the 80 million men and women in the USA military?
What about the 20 million American travelers visiting Mexico each year?
What about the 13 million Mexican travelers that got to USA each year?

Can any of those 113 million persons get chicken pox –or something else- without knowing it and take it to USA?

Why would one million of Americans be living in Mexico IF there is a great risk of getting those "diseases"?
Could a million persons from a “developed” country put their lives at risk???

Do people want to assess the risk of diseases?
They should get the facts.

As you can see the opening of this thread was about diseases and Religious.man is now posting another link about the “crisis” in the border if you can not see his phobia towards illegal immigrants

dunno

And is that the faith that moves some people?

Dragos1: I don't know about 17. Sounds volatile on both ends. I gave you some answers from where you were saying to KB there were none. If you don't like them then I am not going to try and please you. I see certain subjects in more than a few of us get us on the defensive very quickly. "patriotism" is one. If you feel that your good name is tarnished you come running. Well, same here. And while you were visiting the USA you always knew you would leave. yes? so it is not as though you know what it is to live here. Not as a person that is of this nation. no, you are of another and very proud of it. Well, so are many of us. We just had Independence day while you were arguing us down. Kinda crazy timing. But that does not matter to you because what matters to us each respectively is not the same. Yet people have tried to show you their way of seeing things. They just do not realize you will not. Anyway, as usual I grate on your nerves. Though not intentionally....it is just that way in this time. As time goes forward there will be bigger changes to be seen. That is for sure. And both countries will not and can not remain as they are indefinitely.

Patriotism?

Of course, you do not know about the post # 17 in this thread.
So you can not see the difference between complaining, defending and the proposition of killing illegal immigrants. uncertain

My apologies for being so insensitive in the celebrating of your country’s Independence Day but trying to make it up:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me.
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

The Statue of Liberty was a gift to the people of the United States from the people of France. She stands in the middle of the harbor of New York City.

She is a symbol of hope and freedom for immigrants.
Perhaps the 1883 Emma Lazarus’s plaque should have an expiration date.

It is more than nationalism Nikogas.
I do stand for immigrants from any country.

But above all:
I do stand for human rights.

You aim to offend most certainly. I can see that. The Statue of Liberty said nothing about send me your drugs and break our laws while you exploit the rest of the people that had to go through the proper channels. You use the word "Immigrant" where the actual entity that is in scrutiny are "Illegal Aliens". And just because you have a discusion or exchange of words with another member from Oregon does not mean it is up to me to continue it. All us "Oregonians" are not the same you know.

“Americans consume tens, hundreds, or thousands of metric tons of illicit drugs” (Are they criminals?)

How do drugs get in to your country?

Thousands of metric tons seem a rather large volume for the American police-agents not to see them.

“..drug users in the United States spend on the order of $100 billion annually”

If you do not want illegal immigrants from many countries,
stop hiring them.
If ou do not want illegal drugs to enter into your country,
do not consume them.
(I am learning from your approach)

The conservative plan since Reagan has been to talk tough against immigration and sabotage any serious enforcement efforts. The U.S. has benefited tremendously from dirt cheap labor in almost all low skill, dirty, dangerously jobs we require in the U.S.

A gullible lower middle class constituency, and the great increase in wealth of the 1% has been central to their success.

There are good and bad points in the illegal immigration issue, from any angle.

It seems to me that some Americans just see it from a economic point of view, which they have the right to see it that way, especially if their jobs are threaten and anyway USA is their country but there are facts and there are myths and also there is the human side, but that appears not to be important in a materialistic society.

I looked for some references to get some more facts and I found the below references –although from a few years ago- that I am going to read and I will be back, unless Religiousman bans me.

Even as far back as the early eighties , the residential and commercial construction industry was flooded with illegal immigrants who worked for absurd wages and got paid in cash by a semi literate crew boss. All you needed to do was yell "immigration!" in a run down apartment building , restaurant, or worksite with hispanics on it to see what was actually going on!

The fault lies more in business owners ready to pay less and not making questions that in the immigrants, who are illegal because their bosses don't follow the rules.

the irony is the legal and illegal immigrants benefited the economy tremendously, providing a base for economic growth and low to nonexistent inflation. The future of a middle class in U.S. however is questionable at best.

I would not dare to say that legal and illegal immigration in USA have “tremendously” benefited the American economy until I have the data to back that up. Yet, there are some benefits from both illegal and legal immigration and some costs as well.

However a question in place is:

Why do both USA parties do not want to fix this mess?
(from a simplistic point of view)

One is, the Hispanic vote and the other economic gain of business,
which goes with which?

I got some material to read about USA immigration but I also got 12 Historic novels about Ancient Egypt, so it will take me some time to catch up on immigration and its impact on the macroeconomics of the USA.

Maybe hard to get hard data on illegals . I have seen labor shortages though and nothing is worse than having to beg employees to come to work on time. Cheap, plentiful labor is like the fuel in an economic engine though.

LOL! Immigrants, aliens,...really? This is a tiny little planet circling around a yellow dwarf star in an arm of a galazy,....we are, whether we want to admit it or not, all inhabitants of a very tiny biosphere! Disease is just another organism(s) trying to survive. We are all Homo sapiens on this tiny little planet,...and "borders" and "nationality" are just imagianry lines on a map, and perceptions in our minds!

Signed, smallpox,....just lying in wait hoping for another chance!

newinsouth: I'm waiting for smallpox to make a come back. We stopped the vaccinations in the early 70's. All those people since have not been vaccinated. I pray we don't hear of this one cropping up again.
