Personally I would pay the staff $15 an hour just to see the place go bankrupt.
In all seriousness the value of the labor is so low that you couldn't pay them any more, and Unions would be a counterproductive farce considering that type of worker has next to no bargaining power even collectively.

$15 (or best part of £9.20 in Britistan) an hour to ask if I want fries with my fries?
Nah. They're not worth that much. It's hardly a taxing job. It's one of the sort of jobs that isn't a career, but a filler while looking for something else.
Though it might not be a great paying job it is indeed a job that for many seniors has become a vital part of making ends meet. The same could be said for WallMart and some of the other companies that will accept them into the workplace. Maybe giving them a dollar above minimum wage....Still well below 10 dollars wouldn't be that bad. And maybe that human factor is something that needs to be addressed. After all, at least they are doing what they can to be a part of the work force and not a burden on the system. I don't eat at McDonalds. Not as a rule. If I was out and felt like I needed something I might get a cheap sandwich there. But either way it is an opportunity for those that may not be welcome elsewhere. Maybe somehow there is a "worth" that is overlooked in some individuals.

I think what many people don't realize in Europe that the 15 bucks is all they earn. There are no benefits. No social insurance, nothing ! Now, with Obamacare, they're obligated to pay a monthly health insurance premium plus co-pay plus a yearly deductible. I guess one benefit might be that they get to eat the scraps at work

I saw a cartoon once that showed a very very old man dressed in a Walmart Uniform ready to go to work muttering to his wife: "I guess they kept one promise: full employment".
Down here in SoCal, there seems to be a great supply of labor from south of the border, so I guess they can afford to keep salaries low
By the way, I wanted to mention that Unions must not cover just one profession. Verdi, one of the big Unions in Germany covers approx. 1000 professional fields. That gives them quite a bit of leverage in tariff negotiations.
