There is a difference between a developer and a Engineer.
To be an Engineer of any type you do need to have a degree from either a University or a College.

the term engineer has been so misused by computer programmers (code monkeys)and developers that to use the job title of engineer one must be able to prove they have a degree.
i don't know about all the states, but texas and florida are the same.

Yes I know you are not Engineer otherwise you must not said what you were saying. Simple thing is that everyone can't be master in all fields because I am not and I believe no one is.
I am telling you simple what is software is " Is quite based on programming( which is made of codes) there are different computer languages in which software engineers work. Not every software engineer is master in all computer languages.
And I have few of my batchmates and junior they dont have computer science degree but in other field of engineering but working as a software engineer/ developer . Some companies in India like infosis, TCS etc etc hire fresh engineering graduated( any branch)
because in basic of computers and two and more computer languages are taught during studies.
Every fresher( CS engineering graduate) in these companies are given training even those are competed their engineering in computer science.

Degree is must be an engineer not only in India but in every country.
But i have seen few exception What example i have given before a 19-20 yr old guy got a job in good MNC because he was good in hacking. Private companies dont care about how much degree and diploma someone has. they care about knowledge. he had that so he got.
