Yeats1980: Piketty should be another French contender for Nobel Prize in the future. Wonderful economist. However, the powerful don't like him and have labelled him a "Marxist"...I think he has stated that he never even read Marx.
So they don't like what he has to say and will attempt to destroy his reputation. Similar thing happening in Greece with misinformation really...

He analized good, as well as other economists, but in the negotiations in the parliament and in the euro group, they don't give much wieght on whatever analysis on board, it's a one to one confrontation now between the PM Tsipras and the rest, UE group is waiting for concrete reforms on the table, in black & white,, it's been said Tsipras will present his written propositions tommorrow, and be examined again on sunday;
Been following closely the developemnts, it becomes more and more uncertain the events that has to come, all eventualities are open,, member nations are starting to nourish their arguments with nationalism and populism, which should not be the case, contrary to the principles on why UE was created, but those technocrats we're not ready for a plan B solution for Greece and other probable same case to happen.

Lolette,
I would say that the technocrats are making it up as they go. I don't expect lawyers, which most of the technocrats probably are, to be able to manage or even to attempt to manage fiscal and monetary policy. They don't have the knowledge or the know how.

Whether it's in Europe or America, the purpose of bailouts are to protect the bank, while we, the taxpayer, are forced to carry the empty bag and the greater tax burden.

The PIIGS should just go the Iceland route, print their OWN money, and flip the EU the bird.

European and American citizens should DEMAND that our governments re-instate Glass-Steagall so commercial banks can perform their designed roles and no longer function as an investment bank where they incur substantial losses. If we behaved like those banks we ALL would be buried under a jail.

By the way, one Greek member here sent me a private email saying this:

"Pointing fingers about the atrocities (aka Israel)to others.
Am sure you agreed, what your parents and grand parents done to the
Jews during WW2 inside Germany and the occupied by Germans countries.
The worst atrocities by one nation to another, in the History of
man kind.and that done by Germans.Am sure you feel very proud,
being one, or beeing of German decent."

I'd like to know what I posted that prompted this hate mail.

Rizlared,

One more point... (I don't want to repost your post to me, but it's about where you said all citizens are responsible for their government).

I take it then that you also are saying that all Greek people are responsible for the government that got them into the mess in the first place. I'd appreciate if you didn't make excuses for the corruption and the capital flight of the rich shipbuilders who took their money to England, Switzerland and elsewhere.

There is a BBC documentary on youtube where one such wealthy man is interviewed and says: "I don't pay taxes. Our government is corrupt. Why should I pay taxes to them".

So who really is more deserving of hate?

One of our former Prime Minsiters did the same thing, in the Bahamas. It seems to be a global thing, one that even politicians get involved in.

I do find it ironic that even the one in charge of an entire country is ripping off his own country. We obviously elect the wrong people in Canada. Brian Mulroney would be another one, although he was just taking bribes. laugh
