Reuters The US and UK governments relocate refugees through UNHCR camps. But experts say this unintentionally discriminates against Christians as they avoid the camps for fear of persecution Christian refugees are being unintentionally discriminated against by the US government's refugee scheme, new figures suggest.
New statistics reveal that only 2 per cent of Syrian refugees accepted by the US since the conflict broke out in 2011 are Christian. By contrast, over 96 per cent are Muslim, according to US state department statistics.
Refugee Processing Centre The figures from the US State Department refugee processing centre represent a significant disparity in the number of Muslims accepted over Christians The US government rely on United Nations refugee camps and application processes to decide which refugees to accept. The majority of refugees considered for resettlement in the US and in the UK are referred by the UNHCR.
However sources in Syria and Iraq say that Christians fleeing persecution deliberately avoid UNHCR refugee camps because they are afraid they will be targeted there. Instead they are housed in local churches and Christian houses and are therefore not processed through the UNHCR scheme.
Only 53 Syrian Christians have been accepted by the US since the conflict broke out in 2011. This is compared to 2,250 Muslims out of a total of 2,216. The Syrian population is made up of more Muslims than Christians – 87 per cent and 10 per cent respectively – but the figures still represent a significant disparity.
In the wake of the Paris attacks, fears about accepting refugees have risen after it emerged that some of the perpetrators may have entered Europe disguised as refugees. Several US senators have called for the US to re-evaluate its refugee policy and Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush was among a group calling for a focus on Christian refugees.
However President Obama said calls to admit Christian refugees but not Muslims were "shameful" and "not American."
This is not a secret anymore. If only Germany's government accepting non-moslems refugees, I am sure there will be no protests from PEGIDA and similar groups. Unfortunately, moslems and liberal commerades are quite successful to portray these moslem refugees as the real victims and put pressure on us to accept them with nonsense excuses.
"How dare those Christians refugees claims to be victims to deserve any help from the West? We (moslems) are the real victims and no group but us should ALWAYS be the victims in any situations!"
I read a tweet made by a British friend saying that Bush did accept more (moslem) refugees in numbers than Obama does. If it were true, moslems probably should have apologized to Bush

Less than 3 percent of the Syrian refugees admitted to the United States so far are Christian and 96 percent are Muslim, the result of a referral system that Republican Sen. Tom Cotton says “unintentionally discriminates” against Christians.
State Department figures released Monday showed that the current system overwhelmingly favors Muslim refugees. Of the 2,184 Syrian refugees admitted to the United States so far, only 53 are Christians while 2,098 are Muslim, the Christian News Service reported.
Mr. Cotton and Sen. John Boozman, both Arkansas Republicans, called Monday for a moratorium on resettlements, a White House report on vetting procedures, and a re-evaluation of the refugee-referral process.
“he United States’ reliance on the United Nations for referrals of Syrian refugees should also be re-evaluated,” said Mr. Cotton in a statement. “That reliance unintentionally discriminates against Syrian Christians and other religious minorities who are reluctant to register as refugees with the United Nations for fear of political and sectarian retribution.”
The current system relies on referrals from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Syria’s population in 2011 was 90 percent Muslim and 10 percent Christian, CNS said.

Germany rejects most refugees from Ukraine - I guess they are too similar to the local population.
Capricorn143: And let us not forget there is another country doing exactly the same: Canada!
I am afraid that Germany is doing similar things. Just last night it appeared on the news that Christian refugees in various refugee shelters got constant insults from moslem refugees. Mixing up refugees at the same place is proven to be wrong.
I personally wonder how many of them amongst 1 Mio. are Christians? List them and keep them here, the rest could go on to Canada or Mexico
The question still remains open: where are the missing 600,000 refugees?

It's embarassing if it's true, Capri
I was wondering why there was little coverage of people from Ukraine who wanted to evacuate to Germany. Perhaps Merkel forgot that Ukraine is in Europe

youre taking the comment grossly out of context. America always admits refugees of different religions.
of course Christian refugees are admitted. to say otherwise is silly. if the syrian christians are intimidated they should be helped.
Although I agree with u that Obama and the Great American policy of admitting refugees are genuine .It is based on who is been classed as refugees. But I don't understand why Muslims are the one with a greater proportion of the refugees status.Arent the Muslims the Isis?Arent the Muslims who have problems with anyone who is a Christian?I am no political,I just don't understand all these taking in the Muslim refugees .It seems a lot of confusion to me.Dont get me wrong I have nothing against Muslims. It just looks like it's the Christians who need help and accommodation from all those countries.

So the official channels for refugees to claim asylum are unsafe for anyone who isn't a muslim. And I wouldn't fancy being one of the good muslims in these camps neither.
Being agnostic I resist the idea that the same race and same culture will be nice and civilised because they follow the bible and not the koran. Atheists and Christians in the middle east treat women pretty badly as an example(although it's obviously overshadowed by Islam). Quality control alarm bells are ringing once you say the barbarians get a free pass when they carry a bible. Any minority would kind of behave under a brutish majority like Islam it does that mean that the minority are good people(only that they're under the cosh).
Anyway, with all the money and attention focused on the crisis you would think that policing and making safe the main refugee camps would be high priority. This should definitely outrank paying for the chosen few to stay in a Canadian hotel or indulging in more bombing when you have no exit plan or even know who the hell you're fighting for.
