What is the retirement age in your country?

Lately they want to extend the retirement age in my country, it used to be 60 for women and 65 for men, now they want to add 5 years to both. People protested saying not everyone is still able to work when they are 70. So that raises a difficult question, should the retirement age be changed or not? Should cuts be made in other areas in order to keep retirement age as it was?

Give your opinion below.

In my vision of tomorrow there's no such thing as retirement per se but a basic income which would afford you to work part-time. The infirm elderly would apply for a disability top-up.

There's a lot of reasons to do but specifically to this issue I am worried about the decisions the country will make with an aging population that has been completely idle for 20 or 30 years. Dementia, nostalgia and senility can be combated by old people contributing to working life, working 10 hours a week may save the old person's marbles and this is important when the average age of the nation is 62.

I retried almost 11 years ago at age 55. People here retire any age they can afford to. Some really smart people here make their last student loan payment at 100 and can then retire at 105...

It keeps changing. This is regarding state pension? If not, as soon as you can afford to. If it is state pension. It keeps changing to accomodate a population that is living longer. What it isn't considering is that if you can't retire at 60. The chances are you'll be retired due to ill health and end up on other benefits anyway.

Not being funny either I started working at 14. I'm tired now laugh By the time I can retire I will have put in 50 years. Yet, there are plenty of people that have barely worked at all but still will be entitled to the same. I am not speaking of those that cannot either.

Please stick to 60... I was fine with that and hope I can still have a quality of life to enjoy. Then if people choose to work after it is a choice not a requirement.

For me, state pension has risen from 65 to 67

However, I have a company pension, which kicks earlier, so it won't matter to me this change.

The usual retirement age for those with a private (company) pension is 60, , however, you can retire at 50 if you want to (with the trustees agreeing), but then it will a lower pension amount (than if you took it at 60).

When you retire with a private pension you can take it all on day one, of your retirement, as a lump sum (these are the new Govt rules I believe).

You can take a lump sum and still get an "income" however it depends on how much income you want - if you want more income then the lump sum you will be given will be lower.

With a state pension - if you do not take at retirement age (whatever age that may be for you) and just leave it...when you do then decide to take it...every year you left it untouched...there will be 10% extra added to your income (or a 10% lump sum paid out to you).

When I was 23, I heard God tell me not to work for money.

John 6:27
Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

Luke 12:22-24, 27-32 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.
The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.
Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?
Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?
And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.
For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.
But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

I retired 35 years ago.
