This came up in someone else's thread and i thought it was worth discussing it as a separate issue....(wave Dougie!!)

Has anyone on here suffered from Depression at one time or another?

What did you do to get through it?...and what in your opinion may have brought it on?

What advice do you have to give someone that may be suffering from it...on involved with someone who is going through it??

I have suffered from depression and right now I wouldn't be surprised if I was diagnosed with it again due to the things I am going through right now.

Before I was pregnant with Tatiana I had medium depression. I was on Celexa and talked with my doctor every two weeks. I also did see a therapist as well. For me personaly the medication helped a great deal and also keeping a journal to write in everyday helps as well. Because I am the type that tends to keep to myself when depressed and so by writing in a journal I don't feel like I am being judged or criticized and can write anything I want and its personal.

As for being involved with someone suffering from depression. I would have no issues with it because it is not fair to judge someone just because of an illness. It does not make them any less than you and me right? However there are limits as well. The person would have to be able to help themselves. As I always say. You can't help those who will not help themselves. With depression you have your good days and your bad days. Just make sure you have the resources at hand to help you through it and not always depend on your partner for everything. Yes its good to have your S/O there for support but it can also lead to unwanted stress and drama if you dump everything on that person in your life.

So what I am trying to say is yes I will date someone who suffers from depression but to a degree as long as they are getting the help they need for it. Otherwise I don't need to bring myself or my children into anything containing negativity and a rocky environment.

Hey Trace....I think it is more common (so i believe anyways) for women to suffer from depression...

We have alot more changes occuring in our bodies than men do...as well as the lifechanging/body changing pregnancies....sometimes it is hard to recover from one when another "change of life" happens and perhaps it is overwhelming on our bodies...dunno

Sometimes its merely hereditary and/or a chemical imbalance in our bodies...sigh

i have had it, a few years ago, but for me, i needed to get out and meet new people. i also phoned up peeps i went to school with and now we are good buddies again. talking is the best way to get through it, i think. if the depression is altering your life though, you should seek a real councellor. they will help you through it.

Depression is more common than we think...At some point in our lives we will be faced with some type of depression.

Everyone can benefit from counselling imo.

For depression of any type (and other emotional issues/situations) there are incredible natural remedies. I was going to post a site yet unfortunately after reading the forums rules I realize I can't do that. Although no longer in the profession, I have worked for over 20 years as a natural health expert and one of the areas I specialized in was emotional inbalances. I would love to share this information so please feel free to contact me.
Be well, be happy all!

You don't have to post any particular site address...if you are aware of natural remedies...or have expertise in anti-depressants you can probably list it here where we can discuss it...dunno

In order of importance:
- keeping a daily journal - a very powerful tool
- spiritual (silent) retreats - long walks in the winter forest...
- counseling, although this really only helped deal with one issue and cost a bloody fortune - the other 2 were free.

Just my opinion and not intending to be arguementative, but I don't believe clinical depression has anything to do with "poor-me" syndrome. This is a misconception held by many. It is also one of the reasons that people suffering from depression are not willing to seek help or talk about what is going on in their lives. There appears to be alot of confusion between self-pity and depression, two completely different issues.

I agree that there is a big difference between clinical depression and the "poor-me" syndrome. It is difficult for some people to understand mental illness. Depression is a form of mental illness. I have had to live with it most of my life. Lorraine.
