Tinawan: Mine wasn't near death but i should say I CHEATED DEATH, during the COVID outbreak in September/October 2021 had contracted Covid and was admitted to a small health centre but passed out when i ran out of Oxygen, i woke up miraculously and was rushed to a major hospital where i was hooked on oxygen for almost 2weeks. Im better but i am very forgetful, i can hardly recall passwords, PINS and even items. Its frustrating at times.
Tina, sounds to me like you were 'near-death'. The memory-loss thing is a bummer, but at least you're better.
galrads: Onw I drank all the white wine stored in the priest's sacristy behind the altar in St. Andrew catholic church when I was in Elementary school.
Two I went to vigorously pull off a clip-on tie on a best friend in elementary school. It turned out to be a regular tie and he almost chocked to death before we could cut the tie off from around his kneck.
Three I accidentally broke the natural gas supply line feeding my lab bench in a high school chemistry class. Someone ran out quick enough to tell an approaching priest to extiguish his pipe.
Well Gal, for the first one, you were just 'near-hangover' , for the second one, you 'nearly-hung' your poor friend , and for the third one, you 'nearly-blew up' the school lab , but I don't think that any qualifies as you having a 'near-death' experience.
Iyyov: Yeah. When I was a kid, I was in church with mom and my brother and sister. I looked up at her, due to the preacher's discussion, and asked, "Why aren't we called Jews anymore?" I thought my mother was kill me right then and there. She turned red-faced and replied, "They're the ones that killed ******" (The church's man-deity).
Oy! I never did that again! (She said the same thing when I became Jewish, lol!)
I got appendicitis in High School. When I came out of the surgery and the doctor was talking to me, he told me I wouldn't have lived through the night. I was having hallucinations, my fever was so bad. I knew something was bad wrong and had to do something about it. I called my mother. She didn't want to take me to the hospital, so I used profanity in front of here. Next thing I knew, I was in the hospital. So, I guess I saved my own life by using a little profanity in front of my mother. I never liked having to do that, but being deleterious from fever didn't seem to have the needed effect on her. I don't even remember what word I used, but it worked.
So funny, Iyyov. You're lucky that your mother understood you were delirious when you 'cussed', or you might really have been 'near-death' when she was through with you. lol!

Yes, but since my life was on the line, it all worked out okay. I still think she only took me to the hospital so she didn't kill me at home, lol. But it turned out well for me. ;)

The above was in response to Track's post. My last one was being blown out and into the sky by a land mine one second after I had changed positions on out troop transport. Last thought I had was "I'm going to outer space!" Was woken up about ten minutes later in the mud where I had landed, some 15-20 feet from transport. Seven dead, 3 others wounded. Truck had hit a landmine on a curve going about 40 mph. on way to rescue a family compound under attack by Mugabe's guerrillas. Another group got to them for rescue . Adam later I heard that the Selous Scouts and SAS troopers caught then and wiped the 25-30 ters out. I would have much preferred to go into space on a rocket, bound for Mars That was close; was laid up for a week or so. This was third time; once in Tchad; once in Chile during coup against Allende in "73.

OMG. You've apparently been 'near' more than once...
jac_the_gripper: I got to my last slushy heartbeats, saw the death lights and beyond, but made the decision to not let go.
There are some who would say that's not a real near death experience - if my heart stopped it wasn't for long because the first thng I saw was a nurse launching herself at me with a defibrillation paddle in each hand.
Given the debate (around organ donation) as to whether death occurs when the heart, or brain activity stops, I'm not sure anyone has the right to tell me that I didn't have one of those wierdo near death experiences.
Sorry for the late response jac. As for your account, the mere fact that your heart had stopped, and you saw "death lights" too, says to me that you were very near death. Thank God that the nurse responded quickly.

I’ve never had a near death experience. The closest I got to one was when I was a kid I fell into a bunch of really big thorns and cut my thumb bad. I bled all the way home and fainted in the kitchen. I still have a scar today.

Wow CH, seems you've led a pretty 'safe' life so far.
Selenite: Sounds like most people don't really know what an NDE is ...
Selenite, I don't think that a clinical definition of NDE could replace or override the 'feeling' of being near to death. So,...it's about their perception, I think.
I've thought about that incident on the roof many times and my friend Danny whitnessed the entire event so if I actually did fall off the roof to my death Danny would have been an eye whitness to the whole thing and this SOB would have at least spent the rest of his life in prison or worse, he may have faced the electric chair which was the method of execution in New York at the time.

May be ... but NDE certainly does not include 'near misses' where one only realised how near, after the event (because the 'I felt/thought I was dying' is missing out of it) or when one has nearly caused someone else's death...
